🎥My first promo video - is it good enough?😎 [poll]

Hi IH,

This was quite nerve wrecking😁(the video editing was pretty simple, the nerve wrecking part was the amount of features I had to implement to make this work)

The whole point of this was to showcase the simplicity of the app, and clearly to entice people to use it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts -- did I achieve this, or should I go back to the drawing board?

Thanks!

Does this get the point across - that my app is very simple to use?
  1. Nope. Redo it, or do something else.
  2. Yes, it sorta' gets the point across
  3. Yup, this is pretty dope!

7 minutes is pretty long, I think most people would condense things into 1 or 2 minutes.

      Hi @JHercules,
      Thanks!
First off - did you manage to watch it? 😁

Second, You're right, it is a bit long I won't lie. However, I do explain everything in thorough detail. It's basically a how-to, for you, as a user, of how you can actually achieve this in 4-5 minutes, no lie. In other words, my focus was to show you all the nitty gritty details as you would go through the process, as opposed to just showing you something condensed, where everything seems easy, but then as you actually use the app, you realize it's not as advertised😁

I can create a condensed version, but I would not be able to explain much as the video progresses. That being said, I may create a condensed version for tiktok/insta reels, and instead of my voice I will just show everything in captions.

Watched 2 minutes and got bored, stopped. Which happens with long videos!

Later edit: the more I think about, the more I think I will do this (make a shorter version as well). I will leave both versions so people can choose which type of content they want.
As a side note, the video seems to be the highest performing video of mine so far 😁

        2. 1

Thanks. Will look into having a shorter version as well.

The software is great for beginners. But your promo video is very boring and long. Show your creativity in promo video!

    1. 1

That does seem to be the general consensus (that the video is too long and boring)😁So, I will leave this as a hands-on tutorial , and create a new one from scratch, with all the bells and whistles.

I'm gonna meet with a video editor (in a few hours) and see about best font, best phrase, best video background, and do another take 😁

As I mentioned somewhere else in the comments, I had to publish this, 'cause otherwise I'd make and remake it forever :) - and now I can iterate on it :)

First of all, you built a pretty great tool John! Seems to be very easy to use and the video clearly demonstrates it.
I do agree with the feedback given here that 7 minutes is too long. I was watching enthusiastically until I realized that there was still half of the video to go, so I ended up dropping.
Just giving you some data points in attention spam of potential users!

      Hi @leticiasouza,
      Thanks for the feedback!

      Thanks 😊

Yeah, will redo this -- and will look for the sweetspot - 1-2 minutes 😁! As I said, it was a pretty nerve wrecking process, and I just wanted to publish something, and then iterate on it, since otherwise I'd end up losing my mind!

As a side note, in my mind, when I started working on the promo video, I thought it would take 2 minute tops, but then found myself talking for a lot longer 😁

Just giving you some data points in attention spam of potential users!

      100% correct, will fix 😁

That’s the best way to go: put it out there, get feedback, tweak, repeat!

Besides what @JHercules wrote about "7 minutes too long", also for such videos I like to see upfront what the end result looks like, and only then how to create it.

I personally am not going to watch 7 or even 2 minutes to see how something is created without understanding what it is.

Now, as this is IH, I quickly went through the video, and then I realized that you showed the end result in the beginning, and even said that... but thought that it is just an animated title for the video :D

I would add a picture in picture (or similar) of the intro animation right where you said "I will show how to create blah blah...", so to be clear what you are going to demonstrate.

Otherwise it looks ok. I would change the video:

    • to faster pace
    • with more convincing voice over (if it is meant casual, then keep it)

Then it would be great :)

      Thanks @Wishmesh !

Hehe :) Do you have a suggestion if I need to change anything, or is the beginning (the first 6 seconds) ok?

I would add a picture in picture (or similar) of the intro animation right where you said "I will show how to create blah blah...", so to be clear what you are going to demonstrate.

I guess I can add an extra picture-in-picture, I just don't want to overwhelm the viewer -- it seems a bit superfluous to reshow that after I just showed it. Or am I missing the point here?

      I would change the video:
to faster pace + with more convincing voice over (if it is meant casual, then keep it)

Yes, will redo the video -- initially I thought I would do it within 1 week or so, but I may find some time to do it this week 😁

I will keep an eye on my voice(over), to see if I can make it more enticing 😁(as I side note, I'm quite an introvert, so this is pretty hard for me, but I'll try😁)

      1. 2

IMO you need to figure out how to tell viewers that the animated video title is the example animation in the same time.

I will keep an eye on my voice(over), to see if I can make it more enticing
From my experience the most easiest approach is making a voice over after the video is done. So you just watch already recorded video, and talk like you are actually performing these actions.

Then watch your result. In some parts of video you will realize that text or voice must be changed / improved. You change just those sentences and replace them in the video.

By doing such iterations you will make a great video, and viewers won't notice that you did some heavy voice editing :)

Hehe , true that! Will figure out something 😁

So you just watch already recorded video, and talk like you are actually performing these actions.

Agreed😁A bit - easier said that done, when I do that, it's like someone bit my tongue😁I sorta' freeze😁My solution so far was to record both audio + video in one take (which is what you saw in that video).

But clearly, I need to go out of my comfort zone and do exactly what you said😎

By doing such iterations you will make a great video, and viewers won't notice that you did some heavy voice editing :)

Hehe :) I know what you mean :) Depending on how complicated the video is, I could do what you say, or I could just redo it from scratch :) Even though it's more work, I have seen that it does end up all in all better :)
