been there with a different product. had solid early numbers, thought the hard part was done. the gap between "people are interested" and "people will pay" is brutal and it hits you way later than you expect. 200 pre-signups is actually a real signal though, curious what you think broke down post-launch, was it product, pricing, or just that the pain wasn't sharp enough?

Going from 50K views to sunsetting in 6 months takes real honesty to write about. That gap between attention and actual retention is where most first products fail, not the product itself. What was the thing you kept hearing from users just before you made the call?

Thank you for sharing this honestly — going from 50K views to sunsetting is a tough journey. I'm currently building my first solo product (a dashboard tool for small businesses) and distribution is already my biggest challenge. Would love to know what you'd do differently on the go-to-market side.

Respect for sharing this openly — most people never talk about the failures.

200 pre-signups is actually a strong signal. The hard part isn't always getting attention, it's converting that attention into something sustainable.

Building Clarik right now and thinking about this a lot — what do you think was the single biggest mistake looking back?

The gap between pre-launch signups and actual paying customers is where most first products die. People will sign up for free out of curiosity but paying requires them to feel the pain badly enough right now. 200 pre-signups with 50k views sounds like strong interest but interest and purchase intent are completely different signals. What do you think was the real reason people did not convert to paid?

Dont worry, we get something to learn even with failures.

200 pre-signups and a sale on day one is a strong signal. The gap between early traction and sustained growth is where most solo projects die. What would you do differently on retention if you started over?

Most solo founders fail because the product is good but the brand feels too experimental for real customers.
Anyone else notice this identity problem early on?

      could you elaborate?

      1. 1

Sure, happy to elaborate. My first solo startup had a solid product (AI tool for small teams) but the brand felt experimental generic name, no trust signals, looked like a hobby project. Customers hesitated even when the tech worked great. Realized early that buyers need to feel this is legit from the domain/branding before diving in. That Identity gap killed momentum. Now I focus on helping founders fix exactly that with strong, trustforward assets. What stage are you at with your project? Curious if you've hit similar walls.

Branding is something I'm starting on now. What would you say makes a brand have better trust signals, as you say?

          1. 1

For me the biggest trust signal is the name + domain. If it sounds generic or too experimental people hesitate even when the product is solid. I’ve watched multiple good AI tools stall because the brand looked too hobby level. This gap kill a lot of solid tools early on
