Why would you even want to use an alternative to Cloudflare CDN?
It’s free, and one of the best
Here we’ll answer why you want to use a Cloudflare competitor
and how to switch
Why alternative
Cloudflare has been in the cross-hairs recently
and for a good reason
From shady sales tactics
such as black-mailing people into buying their enterprise plan
and to unclear pricing
and firing people under interesting circumstances
There is a really good reason why this is happening
But it is free
Cloudflare has a generous free-tier
but as they say,
When a product is free, you’re the product
Cloudflare used VC money to fund extreme growth
And they took over the market
Their services are good
But now the chicken has come home to roost.
They’re now a public company and the economy is slowing down
They need to become profitable
FAST
And that means squeezing the juice out of us
And not in a good way
What to use instead
You can use BunnyCDN instead of Cloudflare
BunnyCDN even supports image preprocessing and other fancy stuff
Why I use BunnyCDN:
Their interface is beautiful, simple, and powerful
Their CDNs are everywhere
Pricing is good
You buy credits instead of auto-charging your card. This means you won't get a 120k bill because something something
They have tonnes of easy but powerful extras such as processing your files, streaming videos, etc...
How to use Bunny CDN
Let’s set BunnyCDN
It only takes a minute
I have Toolbun.com and I’d like to set up a CDN in front.
I go to my DNS provider Porkbun.com
2
I added a new 0nocache that goes to my server
3
I setup a Pullzone on bunnyCDN
4
Then we set up a hostname
Don’t forget to force SSL
I edit the root domain to use the BunnyCDN alias instead
5
Edit my Caddyfile (for Caddyserver) it is similar to nginx
I like to keep the original one to avoid downtime
Existing cached DNS will go directly to the server
Other ways
This is one way to set BunnyCDN up.
You can even use BunnyCDN as a S3 bucket
and just connect it to a CDN
Or you could just have a cdn.toolbun.com that only CDNs things that are important
Affiliate
There’s an affiliate link in the description
BUT BunnyCDN does not support
Splitting the affiliate bonus of $20 credits
I asked support if I could split the $20 credit prize
And Jesus told me they do not support this
Yes Jesus
I’ll earn credits, not money
Meaning that I am actually using the platform myself because else they would be worthless
So take it for a spin
Why still use Cloudflare
Why would you still want to use Cloudflare?
Free speech and civil rights have been heavily supported by the CF
If you’re a huge company, don’t mind spending 10-50k a month on Cloudflare
You’re okay with getting vendor locked in because you have a specific issue
Now tell me
what will you do about these Cloudflare issues?
Has it become too much for you and are you switching?
