#007 - How to Live Build on YouTube for Free and Grow Your Audience (2-min)

Let's get to it.

Self-promotion feels super weird, especially in the beginning.

But we need an audience, so what can we do?

Drumroll! Build your project live.

It's an easy and super powerful way to grow an audience.

Here's how to live stream your projects on YouTube.

Set Up

First thing, download Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) here.
Download OBS

As that's downloading, go to YouTube and make sure you're logged in.

Click on video camera icon and then click Go Live.

(Don't worry you won't go live yet. lol)
Click Go Live in YouTube

I had a 24 wait at this point. You might too.

Click Settings inside Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)

In the pop up window, click Stream. Then:

  1. Set your Service to YouTube / YouTube Gaming.
  2. Set your Server to Primary YouTube injest server.
  3. And set your Stream Key by pasting the Stream Key we copied in the previous step.

You're all set up!

Now, when you're ready to "Go Live" simply:

  1. Open YouTube and click Go Live
  2. Click Start Streaming inside OBS
    Click Start Streaming in OBS

You'll know you're live because your YouTube Dashboard will look like this.

When you're done, click End Stream in OBS and in your YouTube Dashboard.

Pro Tip: to save your streams to your channel after you end your stream also click Record Stream in OBS whenever you go live.

Growing Your Audience

The key to growing an audience through live building or live updates is not about how perfect your first stream is.

Proof?

Here. Look at Joe Rogan's first ever podcast/stream.

It's, well... shit. lol

Joe Rogan's First Podcast Stream on YouTube

His first audience member actually told him it sucked. Seriously.

Check it out at 6:48.

So let his start give you hope.

The key isn't your first stream.

The key is to show up, even in the tiniest bit, each and every day.

Keep going.
