Is this only for coders? I work as project manager in IT.

yeah it is actually also planed to be for PMs as well :) however we currently I believe have no PMs but the idea is to also be for PMs :)

you can try and speak with the founder and explain you are a PM I think he will be quite happy :)

This is interesting. I'm a tech founder living abroad and have often wanted to monetise the free time I increasingly have by working on contracts.

Through contacts and agents back home it's easy to find 3 or 6 month full time contracts, even though I'm not in their timezone.

However as a founder of existing businesses, I don't want to commit to working more than a few weeks 'flat out' at a time. My existing projects are mature, well automated and fairly predictable but still require time - and I think for quality output we shouldn't be spread too thin (especially not for long periods at a time).

I've still found projects where we can make it work for both sides, but it's very time consuming finding them.

I'd actually been meaning to post on IH about this situation. Lots of people talk about finding personal projects and slotting them around work, but I'm interested in fitting in work around my projects - if you know what I mean?

Is this something you've considered? I imagine if you can make it work you can get higher talent and good rates by making it work with their lifestyle (which might not be exactly the same as mine, but still more alternative than people looking for 40 hours per week for 6 months...)

    Really interested in your response!

This is interesting point, currently all contractors are full time because it is more contractors and not freelance job, but it is interesting option for a 4 hour day or something for a senior talent. Interesting we will think about that.. it actually sounds and makes a lot of sense, for people that wants more jobs/work or even for the ones with family that cannot work 8 hours but can 6 or 4.

I wasn't thinking of steady part time work, I actually think that's the hardest thing to find a fit with client and contractor. People are generally working flat out on good projects, and the work that could be helped by someone working half days is lower level (like someone coding HTML emails etc.)

In my case, I wasn't expecting to find little bits of easy work to fit around my day. More that committing to full time for months on end is less of an option. 1 month helping a team push hard is fine, and my other projects will have to be squeezed in during my own time if they suddenly required attention. But I think working that way for 3 months would lead to both projects suffering. However I find the shortest full time work anyone usually has is 3 months.

If you can find a way to get steady regular non-full time work, I think you'd be on to a real winner though.

I've also been a continuity CTO before, and in those cases the client is just happy to have someone who knows answers to the top-level questions and it's not so much about hours worked (although in these cases I usually know them personally already) .
