9 specific reasons my B2C AI startup didn't work (and 1 thing I'm angrier about than any of them)

Wrote this for myself first. Sharing here in case it's useful to someone walking into the same wall.

Post-mortems like this are undervalued. The honesty about what actually went wrong (vs. the sanitized version most people tell) is where the real learning is.

The B2C AI problem you're describing - probably low retention, high churn, thin willingness to pay - maps to a pattern I see repeatedly. B2C AI products solve problems people have occasionally. B2B/solopreneur products solve problems people have every single working day.

Pivoting from B2C AI to a Solopreneur Notion OS - a daily-use business operating system for solo founders. CRM, projects, revenue, decisions all linked. The retention hypothesis: if it's their business backbone, churn is much harder because switching cost is high. Would love to know which of your 9 reasons hits hardest in retrospect.

      Dude... that's exactly the 90/10 thing I described :)

I highly recommend you stop using AI for writing such comments (especially with duplicates), as it looks bad.

Good luck with your project though

Post-mortems like this are genuinely valuable - thank you for writing it.

The B2C AI pattern that keeps failing: solving a problem people have occasionally but not urgently enough to pay for. B2C habit formation is expensive and AI doesn't fix the underlying distribution challenge.

The pivot many founders make successfully: same AI capability, different buyer. B2B or prosumer - someone whose JOB depends on the problem being solved. A solopreneur who loses a client because they forgot to follow up isn't occasionally inconvenienced - they literally lost money. That pain level justifies paying for a solution and creates the habit because the consequence of not using it is measurable.

Curious what's on your 'what I'd do differently' list beyond the points you covered. The 'one thing angrier about' framing suggests something systemic vs tactical.
