Creators are using faceless videos to gain millions of followers

Faceless creators now have millions of followers. Here's what indie hackers can learn from these short-form video wizards.

Silhouette of a woman in a hoodie with her phone's camera pointed away from her, and her face devoid of any features

If you find yourself browsing TikTok often, you might’ve noticed something weird lately.

Instead of the regular brain rot content where some Zoomer is screaming in your face, your For You Page may now be feeding you soothing videos of anonymous “faceless” women carefully showcasing their daily routines.

It turns out, this is part of a wider trend. And the creators behind it are pulling in millions of followers.

Why is this happening?

According to Hollywood Reporter, many creators are choosing to hide their faces because they just aren’t comfortable being on camera.

Either they're camera shy, they're uninterested in being judged on their looks, or they simply want to avoid the effort of getting dressed up and made up for every video they produce.

As for the viewers who are gobbling up this anonymous content, their motivations are a bit more subtle.

For the second question, it seems that people find the faceless videos as less in your face and an overall nice break from the sea of strangers on their screen.

It's a win-win.

Everywhere imaginable

Although the most popular faceless creators are women posting about their daily routines, that doesn’t mean you also can’t take advantage of this trend. The beauty of being faceless is that anyone can do it. And, you can create content about anything you want.

For every Kandice Breinholt, you have a VCBrags. For every Elysian Living, you have a Nature Is Metal. And for every Easlo, you have a litquidity

How to do it

Where there’s a gold mine, there are people building picks and shovels. Faceless content is now social media gold, so you better bet there are tools to help you mine it.

You still have to do the work of picking a niche, but assuming that you’re not creating lifestyle videos, AI can take care of the rest.

There are two options here. Option one is to create videos using the method that Adam DelDuca describes. So, writing a script with an AI writer or plain old ChatGPT, cloning your voice with a tool like ElevenLabs, finding B-Reel on a site like Shorpy, and then manually editing your video with a tool like Descript.

Option two is to have AI automate the whole process. A quick Google search returns page after page of tools that do exactly this. Crayo. AutoShorts. Reelify. Nullface. Etc, etc.

There’s no “right” way to do it. As always, your engagement will depend on how good your video is.

Why you should care

If you’re an indie hacker, you might think this is a waste of your time. Faceless videos? I have a SaaS to sell!

But you’d be mistaken. Even if you aren’t interested in becoming a full-time faceless creator, you can still use them to promote your business.

One of my favorite X accounts is Viral TikTok Tracker. What VTT does is repost viral consumer and AI app TikToks and Reels. Take a scroll through their page.

What do you notice?

Almost every single video is a faceless video, with videos like these pulling in hundreds of thousands of views.

Short-form video is extremely popular. Everyone is on TikTok, Reels, or Shorts. If you’re a founder, and especially if you’re a consumer founder, there’s no reason for you not to be, too.

Love this! Faceless videos are such a cool trend. Makes creating content way more approachable. I just launched a AI tool for logging work and creating summaries—might try this format for promoting it. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey everyone! I’m excited to share something I’ve been working on that could make a big difference in social media shopping. It’s called KuwarPay—a payment solution I created after experiencing the frustration of clunky checkouts and abandoned carts.

With KuwarPay, shopping from your favorite social media platforms is super easy! Just click the link in a post, checkout securely, and pay through PhonePe. Plus, you get exclusive discounts along the way!

I’d love to hear what you all think! What features would make your social media shopping experience unforgettable? What are some of the challenges you face when trying to buy online? Your feedback means the world to me and will help shape KuwarPay into something truly special. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!" This version aims to create a friendly tone and connect with readers personally. Feel free to tweak it further if needed!

    It really works!

Does it matter who the author of the useful content is?

There are some restriction that we can follow regarding some of the categories healthcares, news, finance etc which you can read on youtube blog.

Also we have no idea if youtube is going to Monetize the channel or not.

That's a great idea! You could incorporate the theme of the Snapchat planet into your store's marketing in a few creative ways. For example, you could create a loyalty program where your top customers are ranked on different planets based on their purchasing frequency or interaction with your brand. It would add a fun, gamified element to the shopping experience.

Also, using planet-themed visuals in your email campaigns or social media posts could catch people's attention, especially if your audience is familiar with Snapchat. Maybe even offering special discounts or perks based on their 'planet' rank could drive more engagement and repeat purchases.

Creators can prioritize the content itself over their own image by creating faceless videos. You can effectively convey your message without needing to be there with engaging visuals, animations, or voiceovers.

The trend of faceless content on TikTok is growing as creators find it less stressful and more comfortable than being on camera. Many creators prefer to hide their faces due to camera shyness or a desire to avoid judgment on their looks. Viewers enjoy this style because it feels less intrusive and offers a soothing escape from the usual high-energy content. Faceless videos are accessible to anyone, allowing creators from various niches to tap into their potential, and AI tools are now making it easier than ever to produce this type of content efficiently.
