Iteration: Software Engineer Principles Applied to Business?

I'm watching Dave's GOTO 2019 talk about software engineering.

He brought up the story of aerospace. By the time Kennedy announced they would do landing in 1961, US had just sent human into space. Engineers had lots of uncertainties and questions to answer.

The way to solve it was through iteration. There were eight Ranger missions to literally shoot a man-made object into moon, six of them failed.

That reminds me of indie hacking business. It's quite similar in the sense of iteration.

My understanding is, we define our process and write it down without worrying that it had to be perfect. We apply the process and see the result. Get feedback, and improve the process.

This process is oriented toward the goal. For example, if the goal is having MRR of $1000. The process I have seen on IH is like:

  • Build / Improve MVP
  • Post on IH and PH
  • Get X number of target customers feedback
  • Start charging $Y dollars
  • Figure out why customers wouldn't pay
  • Improve MVP (and start from beginning)

Is this process too simplified for you?
