What is the average price of a Substack newsletter subscription?

Hello everyone. I´m trying to understand the basic economics behind platforms like Substack and other paid groups.

I'm wondering what is average subscription price for a Subsctack newsletter? And how much does Substack, Stripe, take as fees?

Any other examples of paid group platforms like this and what rates they charge?

Thank you

Substack take 10%, then there are the Stripe fees on top of that, I believe. Publications range between $5-20 per month. They have a guide to going paid which is worth a look.

The other option is Ghost, they have a monthly hosting fee (or you can use something like https://gloat.dev/ by @dr for a cheaper option). Then there is the Stripe fees to pay.

There is also Newsletter Glue that works for Wordpress, it's by @lesleypizza, not sure on the specific details for that.

    I hope that helps.

That does help thank you. Ten percent seems so low, best case they make $2, but I´m guessing the average is much lower. And there is a lot of work on support and payment distribution. The economics sound really bad for Substack.

I´m working on a similar idea, but could only make it work If I was to take 40% as fees.
