First sales! WHOO!!

A user registered 2 weeks ago just bought a subscription, without even waiting for the trial period!

Honestly, it feels euphoric how far we have come in just 3 weeks. A year ago, I could not even imagine building a product in 3 weeks, let alone already start getting paid for it.

    Great job Hakan! 🥳

    1. 1

Thank you, Zviko! I am amazed by the attention this community provides every time I post something. 🙏

      1. 3

You’re welcome Hakan! I’m new here and I’m also impressed by how supportive everyone is 😊

What country are you targeting? A lot of the English is off for USA.

    1. 1

We did not have a target country at first but about 80% of the traffic is coming from North America and UK. What is wrong with the copy? We are not native speakers, it's not obvious to us.

      1. 1

For America, use quote never offer. Never show a currency besides $. You should spend a few dollars on a copywriter and seo guy with native English.

I spent several minutes wondering what an offer is.

        1. 1

Thank you for your feedback. We will definitely work with a copywriter before going for a launch.

There seems to be a lot of debate about which word reflects what we do better and your opinion helps.

I wonder about the currency thing, though. Why do you think we should not show other currencies?

  3. 2

    Hey congrats, great milestone!

Just an idea what do you think about adding a sample quote somewhere in the landing page so a potential user can check first that?
Atleast I will find it very useful to allow me to check how it works without making a new registration and creating a test quote.

    1. 2

      Thank you Daniel.

Someone else on Hacker News also suggested an example PDF link. It's very easy to do, so it's not gonna be much trouble for me. I will get that sorted out tomorrow (1 AM here right now). Thanks for your feedback! If you have more of them, please share. There is nothing more motivating than feedbacks. Well, after sales, of course. :p

      1. 1

        Hah.

I will check the example PDF and can have feedback after that :D

        1. 1

          Hey Daniel 👋

I have added a link to sample PDF file. You can find it in the first item of Features section. Looking forward to hear your thoughts.

          1. 2

Looks great, will try to make time to test the app itself!

  4. 2

    Woohoo!
    Congratulations! 🙌

  5. 2

This is an awesome milestone! Congratulations!

    Congrats Hakan!

Dytto looks like a very cool product, and I’d love to learn more. I’m a freelancer who does a good amount of sales, so I think I’m part of your target market, and I’m interested in decreasing my negotiation overhead. Can you explain more clearly how Dytto helps with that?

    1. 1

Hey Thomas! Thanks for your comment. Dytto in its current form is a simple offer management tool. Right now the existing features are:

      • Basic management (create, view, update, delete) of customers and offers.
      • Automatic generation of PDF offers and sending them to your customers with a single click.
      • Support for 4 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP and TRY (our native currency). The list is hardcoded for now but will be revamped to support a lot more. If you must have another currency, do let me know, I can add it to the list right away.
      • We have recently implemented details like reordering of offer lines, and custom units for items in offer lines.

We are also planning to add these features:

      • A client portal where they can accept/refuse your offers and start a conversation about it.
      • Customization options for offer PDFs.
      • Multiple PDF designs to select from.

Although no feature is set in stone yet and we are very open to feedback.

We provide a 15-day free trial (no credit card required). Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Side note: Dytto is only 24 days old as of today and I built all the technical stuff by myself in my spare time (I am also a freelancer developer 🤘). I am working on sorting out my financials so I can start working on Dytto full time.

      1. 3

Thanks for the great answer! I’ll check it out! And congrats on shipping quickly — 24 days is fantastic.

Some constructive criticism: My first reaction is that sending PDFs to clients is a very small source of negotiation overhead for me. (Maybe it’s a bigger part of other people’s negotiation overhead.)

My main sources of negotiation overhead are:

        • Figuring out the ROI for the project so I can know how much to charge. (I always charge based on the value I create for a customer.)

        • Doing research and gathering requirements. Figuring out what the client wants, whether the project is possible, how hard it will be, and what solutions already exist.

        • Writing a Statement Of Work. This is the contract that describes exactly what work I will do, how long it will take, and when the client should pay me. I send this after I’ve talked about all these things with the client.

I’d happily pay for a tool that helped me with those things.

        1. 1

These are all awesome points and a great feedback Thomas. I appreciate you taking your time.

The 3rd point looks fairly easy to solve but I'm not sure what to do about the first 2. I'll start researching on them right away.

If you have time to elaborate on those (how you do ROI calculation, how and where you research etc.) I would be happy to listen. We can jump on a video chat too if you prefer that.

          1. 3

            Sure!

            # ROI Calculations

I don't have a strong system for doing ROI calculations, and I'd love to hear your ideas, but here's what I've got so far:

If the company has a good amount of business already:

            1. Figure out what brings the company money.
            2. Figure out how to improve it.
            3. Estimate how much money those improvements will bring in.

For new, small companies, the best ROI we can provide is reducing uncertainty. Helping them answer questions about how valuable their business is. But I haven't figured out how to put a number on this yet.

I'd love to think through this with you, especially since you have experience freelancing and you’re starting a new company. If you were to hire a consultant to help you with Dytto, how would you measure ROI?

            # Requirements Gathering

This is mostly about talking with customers, asking them questions, and getting to know one another. It’s also about building trust, which takes time. Usually we’ll meet with a client three or four times. Our goal is to convince them that we know what we’re doing, and also to hit the same topic multiple times, from multiple angles. This helps us understand the potential risks and complications, and gives us time to naturally think of different ways to solve the problem.

Hopefully that gives you some insight into my process and pain points. Happy to do a video call sometime if you’d like to talk more!

            1. 1

This is awesome. Thank you so much! Let me do my research this weekend (because of full time job) and I'll get back to you with more to discuss.

    1. 1

      Thank you, Nick 🤙

  7. 2

Super exciting, we're all rooting for you! By the way, consider changing your pricing to have a low tier, middle tier, and high tier. That may even allow you to charge more in general. There was a post earlier about this. Maybe someone can confirm! I just remember seeing an article of someone doing the change and generating way more income than before hahaha!

    1. 1

      Thanks a lot mate!

I remember that post. I initially wanted multiple tiers as well but the app is not ready to support such thing. Also we are not sure which rules to set for tiers yet. Maybe we need to experiment a bit and talk to our users to draw the lines.

    That's great! Congrats 🎉
