Building a Video Game Database based around the Community - feedback/constructive criticism welcomed.

Hi everyone,

Over the last year and a half, I have been busy trying to create a video game database that is not only easy on the eyes but easy to navigate and full of information. It's been a very long, sometimes stressful (as you can probably all attest), but ultimately rewarding process and we're finally ready to launch.

The site is called We The Players and is focused around community submitted content. My inspiration is that I love (and use regularly) sites such as Letterboxd and GoodReads, but my passion lies within Video Games.

We have been live with some early access users for about a month and a half now, gaining a few committed users who are helping to test.

Any feedback would be very welcomed.

Many thanks and kind regards,

I think there is some issue with your link. You seem to have forgotten to add the domain extension.

Thank you @vaibhavThevedi, appreciated. I've added the extension into the post now.

Alright. The website is great. The color theme, UI. But still at one glance, it doesn't tell me what it is about. That took me time to figure out. Maybe,

You should swap the line " There are two types of databases..." with " Join now to rate, review, collect and showcase in a new way"?

Thank you kindly. Yep, we went through so many iterations on what to say.

Our brand guidelines and philosophy is to be who we are, and not come across as rigid or corporate. Hence the boring database line, but I understand where you are coming from.

We were thinking of putting the H1 to be:
"PLAYED IT, LIKED IT? RATE IT"

But will wait until later to do this so we can track the analytics.

We also need to change the game page (https://wetheplayers.com/games/list/all/popularity:_most_popular_first)
to be less 'search results' looking and more enticing.

Definitely. You can do A/B testing with multiple headlines and see what performs better for you. I recommend you to NOT write your h1 headline in all caps as it might put off your users.

I wrote an article about the psychology of it, here in my newsletter. I hope you will find it useful.

            My best wishes! 🎉
