Yep, $0 for the first 18 months, $182 this month!
Nothing like content for taking time to get going!
Here's the channel: The Last Theory
Perseverance; love to see it. Keep it up.
Will do, thanks!
Nice, well done ! You have to be patient, I love you chart :)
Thanks, Nicolas! I'm do like generating fun visualizations like this chart!
I'm really interested to know what tactics or adjustments you made to achieve this recent boost in earnings. It could be super helpful for others trying to grow their channels too.
Yes, good question, thanks.
I'd like to say I know some killer tactics that got me to this point, but the truth is that it was mostly consistency: putting out good videos every two weeks for 18 months and slowly building up subscribers.
The only inflection point was a recent video Why has there been no progress in physics since 1973? which got 80,000 views, way more than any previous videos.
What worked with this video was having a contrarian viewpoint that hit a nerve with a minority of people, and stating that contrarian viewpoint clearly in the title and thumbnail. It created a lot of interest from both people who agreed and those who disagreed.
Hope that helps, thanks for asking!
Keep up the fantastic work, Mark! Your dedication to creating quality content shines through, and I'm sure your audience loves it. I can't wait to see how your channel continues to grow and evolve.
Congratulations 👏 How long does it take you to build one video?
Thanks!
It's a long process.
It takes maybe 10 hours' work to put out a simple 8-minute excerpt from an interview.
But it's 40 hours' work to put out a full monologue episode: research, writing script, generating stills and animations, recording, editing, creating thumbnail, putting live on web site, podcast, YouTube and mailing list.
Sometimes, if there's lots of research to do or lots of coding to generate the simulations of the hypergraph, it can take much longer.
All worth it... as well as the YouTube channel, I'll work all these articles up into a book eventually!
Thanks for your interest!
Thanks for the answer. Very insightful. I am thinking of making videos to share simple concepts with a bigger crowd :)
That's great! Let me know when you have something out there: I'd love to follow your progress!
Keep grinding man!!
Will do, thanks! YouTube is a great place to grind: if you create something that people want to watch, YouTube will show it to them!
The best time to plant a tree is 5 years ago or right now. You planted this 18 months ago and now it is blooming.
I've watch the "Why has there been no progress in physics since 1973?", the content is great, really interesting I love it (and good clear voice). The video is not doing it for me, and it's really stupid (and likely only on my side) but I can see you reading your notes and it's awkward to watch. As a podcast it's actually really good
Thanks! And you're not the only one, looking directly into the camera is important.
I have a better setup for my "studio" (i.e. basement) recordings, but this was a very rough-and-ready on-the-road episode.
You can get splitter setups that allow you to look straight into the camera through a reflection of an autocue on an iPad, but these cost a lot of money, and my $182 earnings so far don't really allow for it!
Thanks for watching!
Just wanted to add that I only meant to provide critical and useful feedback, I know first hand how hard it is to start something and how many corners you need to cut to get something out on minimal to no budget and your notes presence and quality show hard work.
Have you ever thought of adding stock footages to your videos? It seems quite common today but as you said face time is something that matters to you. I wonder if you considered interstitials ?
Again, I'm providing feedback and you didn't ask for any so I hope you won't mind.
No problem with the feedback, I do appreciate it!
Yes, I've used stock footage in other videos in the past, but I confess I don't like it! Whenever I go to a web site with stock images, it always looks cheesy and inauthentic to me, so I'm going to try and steer clear of that in my videos.
What I'd like to do is add more of my own graphs and animations, which are relevant and unique. Takes a lot of time to generate them, but it's worth it!
Thanks again!
Dude this is so inspiring! Kudos for perseverance, kudos to keep going despite the naysayers, kudos for posting!
