First month of my SaaS: Overtracking Analytics ($208/MRR)

Hi!

I'm Mario Armenta founder of Overtracking.com. A little more than a month ago I launched this vitaminized alternative to Google Analytics.

I launched it in 24 hours and I'm improving it since then.

These are the data I have achieved in the first month:

✅ 338 websites added
✅ 310 users
✅ 9 payments
✅ $208 USD (187.5 €)

I got my first users through my Spanish Twitter account.

My plan to grow these numbers x10 times is as follows:

  • Add features to the core of the product: import data from GA4 & custom goals.
  • Launch a new website with a help center.
  • Create transparency pages with legal documentation.

When I have this ready I will start doing press media (in Spain) and TikTok.

If you want to know more, ask me anything you want. 👇👇👇

    Congrats! Well done :)
Please listen to your users for feedback and build only what is really needed. You can use a tool like mine for this. The rest of your time you should spend in marketing (like this post :P).

That's great Mario, happy for you ❤️

    1. 1

      In love bro 😜🙌

  3. 1

I would love to hear how you market your product

    1. 1

Until now I only did buildinpublic on my Spanish Twitter account.

Now I will start to promote the affiliate plan (25% recurring for life), to close partnerships with marketing training courses and agreements with large websites to build brand.

  4. 1

@MarioArmenta would you be willing to sell your product as of now? I'm open to hearing your price

    1. 1

Right now I don't need money, I'm enjoying creating this. But thank you! 🙌

  5. 1

Congratulations, Mario. I would really like to know more about how you differentiated your product from established competitors. What was your general approach when entering a highly competitive and mature market?

    1. 2

Many users complain about how difficult Google Analytics is to use and others complain that the alternatives to GA are too simple. There is no in-between option. That's where I want to come in.

  6. 1

Did you do all of this alone or did you outsource some of the work to others? I'd love to hear more about your process when building such a tool.

    1. 1

I did it all myself and a friend helps me to code and administrate the server so that it works perfectly. I recorded a video for YouTube telling everything, but it is in Spanish.

  7. 1

Congratulations on the first payments! @MarioArmenta Could you tell us more about your pricing strategy and how you determined the pricing model for your product?

    1. 2

I analyzed my competitors Plausible and Hotjar and set a cheaper price to start with. First I have to gain authority in the industry and gain the trust of the users.

My goal this year is not to make money, it's to build a good product and communicate it to the users.

  8. 1

For your first users, were you building in public? If yes did you approach it in a unique way to stand out. Love the website btw simple and straight forward.

    1. 1

Yes, I told everything in a video on my YouTube channel (it's in Spanish) and told how they could replicate my idea. For that reason there are many people testing the tool and following my journey.

Now I want to tell how I will reach 10K MRR with this :)

  9. 1

Hey, that's great. I will try your alternative

I would love to learn more about how you chose this particular niche. It seems like a brave decision, considering its high level of competitiveness, not to mention the presence of established giants in the industry.

    1. 1

      I don't have fear :)

For 7 years I positioned my linkbuilding company first in the hispanic market. Billing 7 figures per year. Then I sold it. Now I have time, money and experience and I want to apply it in a sector as competitive as this one.

  11. 1

I am interested to know a bit more about how you decided with this specific niche, it's quite brave as I see it as something very competitive (not to mention all of the huge players in the game)

    1. 1

I created a linkbuilding marketplace and took it from zero to more than 7 figures per year. Then I sold it. I got over 300,000 users doing boostrapping. This company was Publisuites. Now I want to try something more difficult. It is a challenge for me =)

  12. 1

Those are some impressive numbers, good going man.

Would you attribute the initial success to the size of your following or the use of the build in public hashtag? Or a bit of both.

    1. 2

My followers in Spain are very loyal and have been following me for years. They trust what I sell them because I have always taken care of my reputation. That's why the launch has worked :)

  13. 1

What to do for those who don't have followers? I built chatprime (cant share a link) it's a simple AI chatbot for websites. I got some visitors but not much.

Would you mind sharing with your friends? I just see how hard is to get message out without spending money. Big problem is if there's noy much money to spend 😃

    Good luck with your journey.

Also why did you choose Twitter to get followers and not for example other social medias like Linkedin for example? Better reach or?

    1. 1

I chose Twitter because it is the social network where I am most comfortable. And where I already had a base of followers from my previous project that I sold (Publisuites).

If you don't have followers you should get them, give them away, raffle, socialize... don't stop talking and communicating your tool to others and you will get them to end up using it.

      1. 1

Thanks. Ugh seems like I'll need to start working more on this "social" media which i kind of hate.

Now I am not sure should I start with Linkedin, Twitter?

They say twitter is kind of dying but is it really?

        1. are you daily on twitter?
        2. how much hours you spend per day on it?
        1. 1

Twitter works well, LinkedIn works well. I personally prefer Twitter because there are a lot of earlyadopters there and, for me, it's easier to sell.

I post daily on Twitter, yes.

          I "invest" 1 hour daily easily :)

          1. 1

Wowza 1 hour every day. That's a lot!
            That's at bare minimum 30hours a month.

30x40$/h rate that would be minimum 1400$ a month income.

Maybe I am seeing this different but I see it as a huge tome investment for low ROI? Hmm not sure, what you think?

            1. 1

That estimate doesn't work for this (I think). I have other projects like The Open Projects with a MRR of $4500. With Publisuites I was billing $200K / monthly... In the short term it is not profitable, in the long term it is.

              1. 1

What do you think of twitter since Elon bought it. Now will be something X ughh hmm? Your opinion?

                Interesting...

Publisuites you said WAS doing what changed?

                1. 1

He mentioned up in the comments that he sold Publisuites after getting 300k users (all bootstrapped)

                  1. 1

                    Yes , 7 years of bootstrapping :)

  14. 1

How do you plan on doing general marketing, i mean adding features is great but how do you get people to hear about them?

    1. 1

Making NOISE! I tell all about Overtracking on Twitter every day. But what works best for me is for users to share their experience with the tool on Twitter (with screenshots). That way others are motivated to give it a try.

  15. 1

As a UI UX designer, I can say, your product looks slick at first glance, congrats! One little tip: if u use illustrations, use more than one, and I would look for a more visually appealing one. Congrats again!

    1. 1

Thank you! Now I'm creating a new website with better illustrations :)

        1. 1

Wow! I didn't know OpenDoodles and looks great! 😍

          1. 1

Glad to help! If u find any other good libraries, let me know pls!

  16. 1

what is your relation with https://appmetrix.com/ ? they look identical even the help pages? is it your company as well with different domain?

    1. 1

I have no relationship. We both have used the same script to have the SaaS base = 66analytics.

After that, we are each modifying it in our own way :)

That's why I put different graphics, anti adblock, custom goals and some other things.

      1. 1

i see. thanks for clarifying :)

  17. 1

How did you get your initial customers? Did you do any marketing?

    1. 1

Just building public in my twitter in spanish (for now): https://twitter.com/marioarmentaart

  18. 1

Congratulations on the successful launch, Mario! 🎉 Your progress in just one month is impressive!

  19. 1

Awesome success! What marketing channels have you found to be the most effective so far, or places you've launched?

    1. 2

So far the most effective way to get users has been to buildinpublic on my twitter account :)

I will soon try Twitter Ads and pay for sponsorship in the IndieHackers newsletter.
