Hi reader,
We hope you are doing well.
We would like to acknowledge how lucky we are with such a nice user base. I use the term user base over community at this point because I am aware that no community features are built yet, nor do we have a ton of interaction among readers on our social media channels. Nonetheless, at Yomi.ai, we are getting a sense of community that we would like to pass on to all of our users soon. You are not alone in your journey to full Japanese literacy.
We have received a lot of great feedback over the past few weeks and we cannot stress enough how important your feedback is. Thank you!
Here’s our quick update on what we’ve been working on this past week.
The first change of the week wasn’t planned at all. But one reader requested a toggle between our standard dark-mode and a light mode. You’ll see the switch on the right-hand side of the navigation bar. The toggle does not persist between “hard” reloads. So if you feel like reading in light mode during the day and load the site on your mobile device during your nightly bathroom run, your eyes will not burst, because dark mode is the default.
The second change is a work in progress. Last week, we asked what type of dictionary you would want. We deployed an early version of the dictionary lookup, using a third party. It is not great, but can be good enough in the context of the text you are reading. We are continuing to work on this. We will also bring in a Japanese to Japanese dictionary into the site soon.
We are very excited to bring you video lessons, which we will start producing in the summer.
Resources for the reading comprehension assessment feature are allocated at the moment.
We will do further work around the discovery of readings next week. Today, we shipped a random reading feature, which can be accessed on the readings-page behind the “surprise me” button.
And finally, as a subscriber, you have access to the subscription center. You’ll find it in the navigation bar behind the three dots (where you can also sign out or change your password). Manage subscription allows you to change your payment method, see your past invoices, and even cancel your subscription (╥_╥).
Since there is no feature to mark your favorite readings just yet, what are you reading? Do you have a favorite quote? Please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support.
