How do I get sign ups for an app?

Hey guys, in the process of developing a studying/game app: https://focusbyte.io I want to get sign ups, I have tried posting on multiple reddit subreddits, and also made an instagram page. But I am not receiving a lot of traffic. Is paid facebook/google ads the only way to go? and if so what is the best way to go about it. Thanks in advance!

There’s not a one-size fits all answer to this. You gotta be creative. Some ideas:

    • Email people who blog about productivity, study techniques, etc and see if they’d mention your app. Maybe you can offer all their readers something extra.
    • Read this excellent post by @harrydry on using gifs for brand awareness. Not easy to pull off, but maybe high reward if it works.
    • Blog about your experience creating the app and share to dev.to, indiehackers, reddit, etc. Devs may find it interesting and then also try out the app.
    • Give users special items for inviting 5 friends to the app

Hi, congrats for your app. I saw its a Forest inspired app with an 8-bit touch, my inspiration you should try to reach people in game communities, cause they are more likely to use the app and be challenged to not "lose the treasure". What makes Forest so successful is it get a challenge that almost everyone have an appeal: to plant trees.

Hey Dante, I'm in app marketing and from what I can tell. You can get some traction with posting online, but real growth comes from paids facebook ads or google UAC campaigns.

For that to work you need to make sure your paid advertising is on point! And that you have paid subscriptions that will make it profitable for you to advertise to.

Love the app btw, I signed up!

Hi @GoodD0ctor, congrats on getting to this stage with focusbyte.io. I think a good way to get your first real customers and app sign ups is to begin building a small community of users / beta testers who really like your product. It can be hard to find these people in the beginning but you only need a few people who really like the problem you are solving to give you feedback and help you iterate to refine your product further.

This will also help set the foundation for your future growth. I think you are already doing the right things with getting active here on Indie Hackers. Reddit, Twitter and other places where your ideal customers hang out online will be good for this. It will be manual and laborious at the beginning but it is better to have a small cohort of early users who are passionate about your products because 1. They will give you valuable feedback and 2. They'll be more likely to share your final product once you have it refined further.

    Keep up the great work!

Just checked out your website. If the screenshots are what your app a really looks like I would first improve the design a bit. It’s not that hard to change some colors, shadows and font. It needs to look better in my opinion. A polished app makes people want to check it out.
