Hi Indie Hackers! 👋
I recently built TrackTheHabit, a simple web tool that allows people to create a customizable printable habit tracker.
The idea started with a simple observation: many habit-tracking tools are packed with features, dashboards, notifications, accounts, and complicated systems.
Sometimes people just want something simple.
Choose a few habits.
Create a tracker.
Print it.
And start tracking.
That was the problem I wanted to solve.
What I Built
TrackTheHabit is a free printable habit tracker maker.
Users can create their own tracker by choosing:
- Daily tracking
- Weekly tracking
- Monthly tracking
- Their own custom habits
- Different tracker styles
- Different check marks
Once the tracker is ready, users can print it or save it as a PDF.
My main goal was to make the process simple enough that someone could create a personalized tracker without needing to download software or spend time designing one from scratch.
Why I Chose This Idea
Habit tracking is a simple concept, but people use it in many different ways.
Some people want to track a morning routine.
Others want to track reading, exercise, studying, journaling, or other personal goals.
The problem with a single pre-made printable template is that everyone's habits are different.
That's why I wanted the tool to be customizable.
Instead of giving everyone the exact same tracker, I wanted users to be able to decide what they wanted to track.
One Challenge: Keeping the Tool Simple
One of the things I'm learning while building small web projects is that adding more features isn't always the right answer.
It is easy to think:
"What else can I add?"
More templates.
More settings.
More options.
More dashboards.
But every additional feature can also make a product more confusing.
For TrackTheHabit, I wanted to keep asking one question:
Does this feature make creating a habit tracker easier?
If the answer was no, it probably didn't need to be part of the first version.
What I'm Building Around the Tool
I'm also creating useful resources around habit tracking.
Some of the topics I'm working on include:
- Habit tracker bullet journal ideas
- Habit tracking ideas for beginners
The goal isn't just to create a tool and leave it there.
I want TrackTheHabit to become a useful resource for people looking for simple ways to organize and track their habits.
What I Would Like Feedback On
I'm still developing and improving the project, and I'd genuinely like feedback from other founders and makers.
I'd especially like to know:
1. Is the purpose of the tool immediately clear?
2. What would make you more likely to use a printable habit tracker?
3. Are there any features that you think are genuinely useful but still keep the product simple?
4. Would you prefer daily, weekly, or monthly tracking?
You can see what I've built here:

I'm interested in hearing honest feedback—even if you think something doesn't work.
I'm building this project to learn, improve, and hopefully create something genuinely useful.
Thanks! 🚀 Built a Free Printable Habit Tracker Because Most Habit Tracking Tools Felt Too Complicated
