I have an idea for a new type of service but I don't know if people will use it and how to market it.
I want to build a smart time management API.
Google has a service that gives you the ability to open your calendar and let people schedule appointments at predetermined hours.
But what if you wanted to give the option of setting hours more dynamically? For example, open your calendar from a certain time to a certain time and let the user decide how log he needs an appointment to be or preset some preset options? Then send to the user all the free time in an optimized list.
I Think this kind of service will be grate for some business and managers who need more flexibility for there time management.
Do you think it's a good idea?
Would you use such a service?
How do you think you can make money from it?
How would you market it?
Sadly, the answer to "is this a good idea" almost always comes down to: have you found a target market? If so, have you spoken with them?
First, I'll say that this doesn't appeal to me specifically. I'm not part of your market.
But, as an indie hacker, it can be difficult to reach our target markets, because we don't have infinite ad budgets to validate, and marketing is more than just them seeing an ad once and going "Great, take my money!"
So we generally make better decisions when we find an audience we can interact with - help, discuss, and ask questions.
Just building the idea isn't going to lead to miracles of being able to connect with your target, so you gotta struggle through actually reaching out to them. And if you can't, that is likely an indicator of how hard it will be to even reach them once you build it.
This is the common wisdom, and people do prove it wrong, but it usually stems from a really good insight they had.
First of all thank you very much for your response and feedback.
In terms of the market I was thinking of 2 main users.
First, it's everyone who needs to open my calendar for appointments and need flexibility.
The other I really want as a client are CRM companies and queue booking.
There are companies like:
myvisit.com, calendly.com and doodle.com
featuring similar service.
Thank you for the kind words
