As far as I can tell - Trustpilot is the most expensive reviews platform out there. The advantages I see for going with Trustpilot are that they're well-known, the brand is somewhat trustworthy and that they rank well on Google. People looking for a certain brand reviews are likely to see their link in the top 10 results. Also, due to their brand name, e-com stores show flash their logo everywhere on their websites.
However, they're at least 2-3x more expensive than alternate services. The other services don't have public review pages though (or don't rank well for review queries).
I keep asking myself - are they worth it for an e-commerce store?
Has anyone here done a test to compare the conversion rate of an e-com store comparing them to others?
Thanks!
Was a lead developer for a e-commerce agency. We handled everything from design, building, marketing, hosting, wiping clients noses. The whole shebang.
We started off using trustpilot but started steering our clients to reviews.io due to costs. Most were happy.
No matter who you choose, you're locked in because you cannot transfer reviews between vendors, so try to research who is available and at what cost, and what your specific needs are. Contact their customer service teams and ask any questions you need.
Thank you! I was considering reviews.io myself. They seem to be good, pricing seems fair. But their brand name isn't as strong as TrustPilot (which is why TrustPilot's pricing is crazy high). TrustPilot's brand name can be put as a badge of honour on websites / ads, others may not move the needle conversion wise.
I wish someone did an A/B test by placing TrustPilot's logo on ads and compare that to Reviews.io or others.
Re: being locked in - I think it depends. TrustPilot's reviews are public and they rank well on Google. So an investment there sounds like something that pays off long term (unless having (good) outdated reviews is viewed negatively by potential customers).
The other platforms allow you to export reviews in bulk and import them to other tools. I'm specifically talking about product reviews here, not business reviews. Business reviews cannot be exported/imported.
I'd say hard no — TrustPilot has a terrible track record:
• Allowing fake reviews
• Extorting businesses
