However I have a hard time converting them to paid users.
The current model allows users to build websites, and only pay when ready to launch. I think this is fair, but might make it easier to abandon?
So I don't know if I should require payment up-front or bet on a freemium mo
Loved the design/UX. Really great product.
I added you to my "no code" software list (https://x.workandwhistle.co/no-code-list/)
I think the model you're using is fine and probably the best way to sell the product. I saw some of the comments about it being sneaky to add pricing at the end, but I actually think the flow you have is similar to other products.
What I noticed is that the whole experience was really high-end until that "choose a domain" pop up. It actually feels like it wasn't treated with the same detail as the rest of the builder, and I think that's what's tripping your potential customers up. If you can give that part some love, you'll probably convert better.
Good luck!
Thanks for the kind words Drew! 🥰 And you're absolutely right about the domain form. I guess I've been blinded by my analytics, as small % make it to that point and have therefore not prioritized it. I will now though!! 🙏
Hi Stefan, cool product! Here are some thoughts:
Consider giving the checkout page inside your web-app a comparison with the free tier and more info about what it is I'm actually buying. Also move it onto a standalone page and out of those tiny pop-ups.
You could do-away with the free tier but I think for products like this one, it's important to keep the barrier-of-entry very low. An up-front payment might deter people who might've tried and bought it.
Also have a look at this in regards to the payment/checkout pages: https://app.landen.co/buy (makes more sense when logged-in).
Hi Felix! Thanks for your feedback and great work with Landen!
It's because I only have one plan :P (thought it would make it simpler, but it seems to confuse people).
I'll give the checkout flow some love in the upcoming release 🙌 cheers!
How is freemium working for you on Landen? I've been scared of having support questions removing focus from the product, but maybe I should reconsider? 🤔
Great design btw! Everything looks super polished! #goals
Oh I see, I thought you also had a free plan. In this case I suppose I was on a trial? But then when you do a trial people expect to test everything. So I guess either make the free one able to publish (maybe subdomain / subfolder + "made with grid") and offer a comparison between free and paid or make it clear that it's a trial, make it time limited and let users publish.
I do get quite some support questions from the freemium users, but some of them help convert to paid users. Also helps you learn from your users needs more. I have an Intercom chat in the web-app and should the support requests ever become too much, I can always remove it.
Thanks for the tips, app.landen.co checkout page look superb!
Just checked out your product. I agree that it looks really nice. I might offer a slightly different perspective. I think you should kill the free version and raise the price of your paid version. Your app looks amazing and coupled with the impressive stats toward the bottom of your landing page, I think you should consider repositioning yourself as a premium product at say $99/yr. Not only does this net more money for you, but it means that you only deal with customers who have a burning need for your service as opposed to wasting time on free-tier users.
Thanks! I currently only have one version (which might confuse people?) and it's the building process that is free. So the user doesn't give value before getting any :)
I agree on the premium part, and are currently charging ~$270/year. So it might be too premium?
Can we see the project sir ?
What I personnaly hate is when premium is not clear at start. You spend 1 hour setting up everything and at the last page of the process , it asks you for 49$/month :P (often see it on logo builders)
This has to be clear at the first stage from my pov
I think the best think you can do is to test many different ways and keep the one that works the best ^^
Of cause good sir! 🎩 it's grid.studio 😀
Hate those as well, which is why I really try to think what process I would like to go through myself.
I've tested your platform, it's really sick man, good job :D
And indeed, it asks for 24$/month after the process of creation. From the main page, it feels like it's free, moreover, you're offering a pro version so it feels like the non-pro version is free, the pro version is not.
That must explain the fact people leave the platform after seeing that.
In my opinion, you should put the pricing on your main page, so people will use it only if they agree with your pricing and you'll be able to measure it. I personnaly clicked "Start building" before seeing the pricing link at the top.
Test different things is the only way ^^
Oh, and will also appreciate a lot to have your website listed on networkup.io <3 Can add it on my own if you want but you'll be able to have notifications if you do it with your account.
May the force be with you!
Thanks! You might be right about the pricing, but then again it's free to create? :) Will try to make it more clear on the landing page.
Feel free to list it on networkup.io! I'll dive in to testing!
What do you mean it's free to create ? Didnt get that :P
Thought I had used the sentence 'Start building for free' on the landing page, but it was not the case. :) So was just clarifying that you can build (for months) for free, and only launch (pay) when ready.
Oh yeah sorry, sure! :P Indeed you're pointing something ^^ I think the price is not a problem, It will have its target.
The problem is people abandon their creation. It can come from the fact pricing is not clear enough (offer must be on the main page.
For example, at shopify, you see "Start your free 14 days trial" which means it has a price ^^ I wasnt sure for your project until I clicked "Launch" (havent seen the pricing tab at the top of the landing).
It can also come from the fact the product is bad and people just abandon their project because it's not good enough but in my opinion, the product is good enough to get customers ^^
GL again :)

Hey Stefan! I checked out your app, cool stuff. I think the "choose a domain" step might be killing your conversions. I would imagine most people want to see this published and THEN specify a domain and pay for it.
I recently wrote an article highlighting how one site did a great job at trial to paid conversions, it may be of benefit for you to look through it on top of the domain issue I mentioned above: https://saasgenius.io/76-5-trial-to-paid-user-conversion-rate-dollar-flight-club/
You're absolutely right - the choose domain needs some love. So you're thinking it should be published to a sub-domain and then upgraded from there? My idea was that the editor is truly WYSIWYG so it wouldn't be necessary, but you might be right. 🤔
Impressive numbers! Will read asap. Thanks Gene
Well, I don't think it's the actual step to add a domain that's causing the congestion, but the actual process of having to think about what it should be. For example, I could spend hours / days / weeks thinking about a domain name. Honestly, I would also go to my registrar of preference to choose a domain name and wouldn't see the point of typing it in your service before I check to see if it's available. If this is the case for others, they could be leaving your site entirely, spending god knows how much time looking for domain names and then not finishing that last step on your app.
You could always test it with Hotjar. Set up a conversion funnel and see where people are dropping off as the last step. GA would do it too, but hotjar just makes it easier.
Oh I see! Currently you'll only bind a domain to the site, and will have to buy it elseware and point it over. This I will clarify in the new design. Cheers! 🙌
