Roast my landing page ๐Ÿ™

Hey all, I'm building WorkMate, a hiring marketplace for contractors. I'd love any feedback on my MVP, good or bad.

Thanks!

I love the clear message of "Do contract work for startups. Get paid."

The domain "https://www.tryworkmate.com/" is not right. It implies a trial service - one that is of low value and may not be around for long. Is there another similar domain you could use or change the name to something else?

Lose the stock photos. Replace them with custom illustrations and/or photos. I do not believe you can land me a job right now because of those photos.

Do not say "paperwork" or "contract". It implies a difficult and scary process. Instead, say "agreement" or "work environment" based on context.

"Upon approval, youโ€™ll be sent an invite to join our Slack community." implies non-automated. Consider changing this part of the process to something automated. Where the user submits, gets approved, and sees the progress of the process. Like a pizza delivery indicator.

Give some testimonials on the page. For example, "I now get paid for the work I love." Basically, your value proposition is contract work without the low prices of Fiverr and UpWork. Make sure your testimonials show this. Give some people you know the service and ask for them to write a review.

      Hey Todd,

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. You made great points, all which I agree with.

      I'll get to work!

Very interesting value proposition. Simple and clear.

Would be great to know / see examples of the type of jobs @deroy

I'm also improving my site, keen to know your advice!

I am assuming that this landing page is for attracting the contractors and not for businesses.

    1. Move the text up. There is too much blank space between the menu and the headline.

    2. You should change the headline to "Find contract work" not "Do contract work". Doing is easy. Where you add value is finding. Am I correct?

    3. I like the benefits listed under "Become a workmate".

    4. Do you have testimonials, case studies or the companies that are hiring on your platform? These will help a lot in attracting talent.

    5. If you can provide a separate page of the range of rates under each category, that'll help as well for a contractor to be comfortable that this is a high-quality marketplace. You may event want to post the requirements publicly but leave out the company address and other details so that only registered contractors can view this information. This will give incentive to contractors to register. In fact, you should just create a public search page and ask them to register only when they are interested in a particular listing.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! I'll provide some on yours.

I chose "Do" instead of "Find" because finding a job is easy imo, landing one isn't. Our value is getting people to the "doing" point, asap. Testimonials are coming soon.

I like the idea of showing rates! This isn't a marketplace for people to see jobs and apply to them. We match people directly with hiring managers, at most, they have a profile.

So how about "Land paid contract work for startups"? I prefer that over "Do". You should do A/B testing.

BTW I just got an email from Robert Half titled "Land a remote job, faster". So there you go! May be use "Land a paid contract job, faster". :)

A/B Testing for the win. Gonna test some new copy, thanks!
