Roast my landing page

Aight, so I've realised I may have to update my landing page, but would appreciate some inputs from fellow indie hackers if I made some glaring mistakes and how I could fix it.

Access the page at: https://slantit.app

My product Slant it, is a tool to make catchy 3D product showcase videos and images easily.

    Hello Akash,

Here are my genuine thoughts after visiting the site (please kindly take these in good faith) -

    1. My attention immediately went to the background image/gif and want to check it out but can't. (unless I take the pain of "Starting for Free".
"Show, don't Tell". I believe it's optimal to have looped demo/parts of it to the side of big large text rather than behind it.

    2. The page is unncessarily long (lot of white space) and can be simply cut to half. If you still wish that long scroll, have Testimonials and Social proof to in the landing page alone. Why do you need two separate tabs landing to the same end point (testimonials)? Also, it lacks strong case studies, success stories and "strong magnetic pull" towards the product.

    3. Copy lacks clarity and does not have a clear value proposition statement. It is not obvious what the product does or why I should use it. For example, the headline says “Screen recordings to catchy 3D videos in minutes”, but it does not explain how it works, what benefits it offers, or what problems it solves.

    4. The layout of testimonials is confusing. I'm not sure if you intend to follow "Z" visual style but simpler layout would be better (IMHO)

    5. Menu options are confusing/unnecessary. Having blog / resources before Pricing doesn't seem fitting in. Here is my proposed structure or flow (if you will) - Landing --> Product (Features) --> Pricing --> Blog/Resources.

    6. What's the intent of having two CTA's ? Start for Free (makes sense) and again Start Creating as Menu Item? Which one should I pick (as a user). Make it dead simple and straight forward. Reduce the choices and cognitive load on users.

    7. Contact can be removed from Menu. Anyway, it's navigating to Chat box. Instead have About / Company / Values / Manifesto. Something that builds trust with your Customers.

    8. No mention of anything regarding Privacy and Security policies. How do I know if it's even safe to use your product?

In short, here's what needs to be improved -

    1. Build/Bring more Clarity in Copy (Show, don't tell. Highlight USP)
    2. Build more Trust and Rapport (address possible your ideal customer objections, concerns, use cases, solid social proof)
    3. Build more Support and Guidance for new users.

    Hope this helps,
    Dee

Thank you for some great insights! They are very much in-line with what others have said.

For 6, what would your suggestion be? I kept one CTA in menu so that it is accessible when users scroll down on the page. Removing it from hero section doesn't sound like a good idea.

For 7, it's just me indie-hacking this project. No company as such. What according to you can I talk about in About / Company page?

For 8, I do have the privacy policy in the footer navigation, can move it up. But I would appreciate your thoughts on it, as I have kept it pretty basic right now, and not sure if I should make it more elaborate.

        Hello Akash,

First of all, thank you for taking the constructive feedback in good faith. You are already a step ahead.

Here are few of my thoughts -
Point 6 : IMHO, our brains are wired to see certain things the certain way. For example, to exit or close, the users might look for "X" rather than bold letter "Close" in the Menu. Having CTA next to irresistable Copy makes sense to me (rather than a menu item)

Point 7 : This is even better. Personal stories are ALWAYS better than boiler plate About Us. Carve out GREAT story about why you'd want something like this for yourself. Invoke emotions, feelings and belongingness rather than CTA's in About.

Point 8 : With data privacy and regulations, you should elaborate as much as possible on what data you'd collect and how you intend to use this data. Also, if possible have strong measures like encryption embeeded in the app/product to minimize risk. (and yes mention that too). In addition to Privacy policy, may be create a manifesto or your committment to data privacy and security (simple 10-15 bullet list)

+1 on Dee this one Akash,

The background GIF caught my attention first instead of the actual copy.

  2. 2

Holy shit I was just looking for a tool like this for my SaaS

  3. 2

Cool - but you need to show what it can do i.e. a demo video immediately

Once you can see the result people will be more likely to learn more...

To begin, it looks great and the product appears to be really neat.

I would ask why if your subtitle is to make "scroll-stopping product showcases", then where is yours?

I am not certain that a 6min video is the catchiest way to demonstrate value. A split screen animation of of a normal product video on the left and a Slanted version on the right might get the user to understanding your product quicker.

I don't like the video in the background in the hero. I think it's an example of you knowing what exactly it shows, but for everyone else it is not easy to follow along.

    1. 1

Great feedback! After going through your's and other comments, I definitely feel I'm not showing what exactly Slant it can do. Split view sounds like a great idea, thanks!

"Slant it is the easiest tool to Make catchy product videos."

I would not mention product name in the title, it feels repeating, I would keep the point very clear when it comes to the title "Easiest tool to make catchy product videos" would be sufficient enough to grab the user attention.

    Very promising tool!

As mentioned by others, make make a gallery with some demo video made.

On mobile, the hero section takes the full screen, I have to scroll to see any additional text.

Maybe clarify is you only allow for video exports, or also gif or jpg.

Maybe create a call for action for the lifetimes deal on the home page?

A question of taste, but I clearly prefer white background and not dark mode.

And finally, maybe compare yourself to brandbird.

Will have certainly a closer look on PC, as I can't test it on mobile right now.

its great i just add in one click

  8. 1

Oh dang, this is dope! Really good execution on the software. The video demo is good too (but you do talk a little fast hahaha) and very convincing.

  9. 1

Firstly, great idea. Love where this product is heading. But I do agree with a lot of the comments regarding video.

    1. If 'scroll stopping' is part of the appeal, the average short-form video has less than 3 seconds to catch the user's attention or they are gone. Many would argue the first frame needs to be set up correctly to stop the scroll. Just search YouTube for videos about how to do this. Your current demo is far from this. I would move the long-form demo elsewhere and put a banger 15-30 second demo in its place highlighting great examples.

    2. The video in the background of the landing page actually draws your eye away from the landing page text in the centre of the screen. As site owners, we all want a fancy animated website but as a user, they are often overly complicated and unnecessary.

    1. 1

Will work on these changes, thanks for the feedback!

I love what you're building. Every company applying to Y combinator need what you're building.

    Here's just my 2cent advise

    Showcase Use Cases:

Provide examples of how Slant it can be used for various industries or niches, like software demos, product launches, or social media content creation.

This will keep more people know how they can integrate your tool to their life or business

    1. 1

Great advice, I'll work on showing demos in a better way, thanks!

  11. 1

The entire theme is futuristic, classy & fantastic! There are 2 things though.

    1. Add more context. The page is short, which is fine but the context within it isn't enough. (I'd suggest you "replace the 4 feature icon boxes, with a section for each and an image or a video of that feature to the side").

    2. Testimonials from early access users doesn't look like a testimonial section for me. It's too much information to look at, and I think people will ultimately skip it. (I'd suggest you go for a traditional testimonial section with added quotes).

Other than those two, I think every bit of the design is perfect to the pixel.
Kudos and Best of luck for the product's success Akash!

    1. 1

Makes sense. Page is quite short and text-heavy for the features the product has. Will lay out the content in a better way. And yes, I guess I tried going too creative for testimonials section and messed up 🙈

      Thanks for this great feedback!

  12. 1

I have a few tips. Reference spline and jitter, they offer a similar service. Secondly, the testimonial section looks cool but it's impossible to understand, simplify it. Lastly, I think the name could be better, I believe a company name can help communicate its offering in a delightful way yours doesn't.

  13. 1

It looks great. I think you need to add more details and screena from the service. More marketing, more about your target audience and possibilities of the service.
    Good job!

  14. 1

Agree with everyone about the video in the hero. I would rather go for a juicy graphic, perhaps a cross-section of the interface mixed with some illustrations indicating innovation and motion.

    Here're a few other things I noticed.

    1. The product is focused on 3D animation, yet there aren't any on the site. I would consider showing example animations
    2. The testimonial section doesn't feel like it, probably because users expect to see quotation marks. Otherwise it looks like regular text at first glance.
    3. In general the site feels too static, considering what the product does, so consider making it more dynamic by showcasing the benefits in an animated way or giving it more motion.
    4. The subheader "Still don't believe it?" feels out of place because you didn't pump up the product enough to ask that question.

Good fortune and I hope your product kicks some ass!

    1. 1

Thanks for this great feedback! I think I tried going too creative for the testimonials and messed up. 😅

Will go with a more general design for testimonials and showcase the videos Slant it can create in a better way.

  15. 1

Hi my friend, the landing page is great, good job.

Still, I want to tell you things that I think would be better if it changed:

You can put the text "Slant it is the easiest tool to" somewhere else. It can be smaller.

There is a video playing in the background in the hero part, I think it would be better without it, it confused me at first. You can try a plain background.

Edits can also be made in the footer section, you can add the links in the menu there.

Also, it was strange to me that the pricing and FAQ section were together, maybe because it was always done separately. It might be better to have the FAQ as a separate menu even if it's on the same page.

    1. 2

Thanks for the feedback! I felt Pricing & FAQs are something people look for at the same time, but I'll try your approach too.

  16. 1

I would love to see the final product/video produced with your tool somewhere on the homepage!
    The rest looks pretty good!

  17. 1

Dude, it looks awesome! If you add a product tour on basic features would help new users to understand!

    1. 1

Thanks! Will work on this 🙂

  18. 1

Congratulations on building such a cool product 🎉

    1. The LP looks very good.

    2. Although a different hover effect on the primary button might be impactful.

    3. Looks like after recording login is required.

    4. Does it record audio?

    5. Is the Slant it tutorial made with “Slant it”?

    All the best 👍

    1. 1

      Thanks for the feedback @tusharthe!

Looks like after recording login is required.

There is no login required to use the tool. You can record, add transitions and export without an account.

      Does it record audio?

      It doesn't record audio yet.

Is the Slant it tutorial made with “Slant it”?

No, but the background video in the hero section is made with Slant it.
