Roasting my competitor

A great way to increase awareness for your startup is by writing an article comparing your features to your competitors'.

Here are some examples of companies utilizing this:

Example 1: https://www.notion.so/evernote

Example 2: https://ghost.org/vs/wordpress/

Here's mine: https://www.followchain.org/upleap-alternative/

I honestly burst out laughing reading the title.
    But wow, interesting idea!
And your article was really well-written.

Good advise! I did something similar in this article in 2019 coming up with reasons why most crypto exchanges suck. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/10-reasons-most-crypto-currency-exchanges-suck-werner-hochleitner?articleId=6526355469085208576#comments-6526355469085208576&trk=public_profile_article_view

Funny thing is, the people commenting made clear that they work "on something totally unique and different" which, at a closer look, turned on the excact same crap as the ones I mentioned in the article. I already deleted a few but kept one as a warning....

We've had great success with this tactic as well. We researched our main competitors and added "alternative to" pages to our site like this one:

I know some people get worried about bringing attention to their competitors. But unless you're in a brand new category, there's a good change your audience already knows about your competitors. So pages this like help you explain why you are better.

This is an interesting angle—thanks for sharing @notlhw. We have been thinking about this a lot lately, so your post is timely. I just wrote my first competitor alternative blog here: https://obie.ai/blog/guru-alternatives-obie/

    Would love feedback!

There is a problem inherent in this: you're also increasing awareness for your competition.

It sort of reminds me of when my parents wanted me to watch a Dangers of Rock & Roll video as a child...it ended up comprising my first list of bands to check out!

Be careful on this slippery slope or you will damage your brand while marketing someone else's.

I do agree with your point. The OP missed one important point in his explanation. More than the awareness that is done to increase the SEO points. People searching for the competitor by name will get to see this page in SERP.
