Startups #7: The 24 Startups in 24 Months Challenge

"Thanks a lot

For me personal I just collected ideas since 2014 in different notes (around 100 right now and also crazy ones), they aren't really validated (I think validation is another whole story), but it's kind of a train yourself to become better at generating ideas and always directly write down something at the moment you have an idea in mind. The thing is, I just collected them without doing any execution over the years and right now I'm trying to filter out what has the potential to generate income or whats also interesting is that some ideas can be combined or can lead to new ideas because your personal experience changed over time and also the world changes every day. Also existing and working products are inspirational to make something with your own touch.

To just give you an example: There are plenty of (remote) job boards and we've created also one with our own touch and received feedback from users. Because of the feedback I came up with generating a platform which focuses only on the talent side (also not the only platform like this), this platform right now leads to new ideas e.g. problems we encountered ourselves and where we try to build tools for ourselves to solve them and also then for others which are in a similar position.

And we do the 24 Startups in 24 Months challenge to build a habit of generating and executing ideas in a timeframe of 1 month and learn from every past month. Along the way we build a story with this challenge which is also nice."

Since this comment is around 8 months old, I would add some things of what I've learned personally in these 8 months. It's not that easy to implement a product each month (we are two months behind our own schedule :D, but since the challenge is 24 months long, I could easily implement two ideas in a month, so this is a small issue). It's really like you train a muscle, the habit of generating ideas, the more you do it, the easier it becomes... The challenge what I face myself right now is "Which of all these ideas are worth it to turn into a product" and also what I realized is how hard it really is to get traction for the product when it is released, but I see these points the same way as with the habit of finding ideas... "Just train the muscle until it gets easier" "see them as building a good habit" :) Sure there are times when I also have "creative blocks", but then It's time to accept the fact and look forward or do something completely different, take vacation or just follow your feelings. Just don't give up, push a little bit harder :). It's seems to be too simple to be true, but in the end it seems to be like that. Also a lot of code we wrote for the first startups where I spend sometimes days to find a satisfying solution can be easily reused for newer startups where I save the time for finding the solution for the problem and can just easily copy/paste my own code. They share all similar components :), so this saves also time for generating new ideas and making the execution more simple. I think thats it what I have in mind right now regarding your question.
