What analytics tool(s) are you using on your website other than Google Analytics and why did you pick that solution?
We're currently using GA, but aren't super happy with the complexity and reporting and feel like we're not getting a very complete picture of our visitors.
https://plausible.io
Plausible is the best option to give up google analytics, servers based on EU, and open-source code!
My other favorite part is since I don't use any third-party/tracking cookies generally that I don't need to add a GDPR or cookie banner with Plausible.
Yes, that's a really good thing
I am using https://www.cloudflare.com/web-analytics/ which is free, GDPR compliant and minimal.
After completely remving GA quite some time ago, I'm currently experimenting with Cloudflare Analytics too. Might be enough for my needs. After that, I may self-host Plausible or just subscribe to their service and don't host it myself. Not sure yet. But Cloudflare Analytics will do for now.
Another vote for https://plausible.io, I use it on https://allthecode.co and really like it. Unlike Google Analytics I can actually find the data that I want and it makes sense. I have no idea how to drive GA anymore, totally bemusing.
Self-promotion warning. Look away! But seriously though...
We've been working hard publicly on Twitter. Creating the next-generation analytics tool for people who love simplicity combined with full control + custom events + of course the Dark theme ♥
Definitely check out Veonr Analytics
Yeah, it's a good one.
Thanks man!

These guys are great. Open source, successful, and generally just nice people.
However, I personally just use Cloudfront metrics and simple logging which feeds into a grafana dashboard. I don't, at this point, require anything really fancy.
I'm the creator of Fugu, a product analytics tool focused on simplicity and privacy. It doesn't track unique visitors. It's also open-source and self-hostable, although I offer a hosted version for $9/month. I think it's a great alternative to Mixpanel and Amplitude, especially for folks who care about privacy and don't need all the bells and whistles of the big analytics tools.
There's an embedded demo on fugu.lol that you can play around with. Here's the code on GitHub.
For web analytics (view-based) I recommend Plausible.
Depends on what you're measuring, but I'd say https://amplitude.com for product analytics, https://taplytics.com for A/B tests, and Metabase for internal analytics if you want to go he open source route https://www.metabase.com
I use Splitbee for my Conversion Design blog.
It's pretty elegant in terms of design, free and I think made by a fellow indie hacker.
If you want to replace Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager... https://scale8.com/
Open-source and privacy-friendly :)

I have been using https://pirsch.io/ and have to say it is really good and affordable. Use it to see general traffic analytics but also with custom events.
I tried https://umami.is/ for unzip.dev but I changed it because it lacked some information I wanted. So I changed it to https://plausible.io/. The only gripe I have with it is that I still can't see the exact referrer (for example I got mentioned in a hackernews comment, and I couldn't find where the spike originated from, eg the comment).
Ohh, Cloudflare's analytics are also nice, but very simplistic (only data from DNS).
what did umami missed? curious, bcz i like it too & want to use it but not sure if i should if it's missing something.
i think it might probably have it but since unless hackernews comments aren't sending huge traffic, it might not show it unless it's a popular post.
Matomo
I am using clicky.com as they offer a free option for small sites.
Hi Mark !
I'm using a recent tool called Plezi One : www.plezi.co/en/one
It's super easy to use and it's free, I think you might like it !
Hello,
i'm using Plezi One : www.plezi.co/en/one. It's easy to use and GDRP compliant. A good tool for B2B companies.
You can try https://plausible.io or https://posthog.com/
Hi there!
We're using Plezi One : www.plezi.co/en/one
It's a free tool super easy to use (and to connect to your website).
It allows you to have only the data you need: sessions, conversions, leads, etc. (you also have the Google Search Console data, but translated to understand them easily).
Everymonth, the app send you a report by email.
You can try here: www.plezi.co/en/one
I use Simple Analytics. Easy to use interface, isn't full of features I never want to use, and it tries to respect privacy of users, as well as avoids setting cookies so you never need to think about cookie warnings.
For small projects I use SplitBee. It’s simple and easy. And good free tier for smaller projects.
For more advanced needs or larger projects I use Fathom Analytics. So far I love it. Again simple to use but works great. And they have a great implementation to avoid getting blocked by ad blockers and such. So it’s more accurate than GA.
Plus they are really focused on privacy/GDPR.
I’ve heard great things about Plausible too. They’re open source if that matters to you.
Thanks for the tips. I've been checking out all 3 and they all look promising.
Sure thing. All of them are great, just depends on your personal preferences and needs.
Oh and Simple Analytics seem great too, as mentioned in another comment.
Self promotion:
https://unfog.io is a simple, privacy focused web analytics platform. We include metrics like session tracking that most of our competitors are missing and have Google Lighthouse page scanning built in.
I built/use my own platform - UXWizz
It's like a combination of Google Analytics and Hotjar, but it's self-hosted, so you don't send your data/users data to big corps.
I personally use matomo.org - affordable, open source and provides me with heatmaps and A/B testing which saves me money on other softwares
I use https://appmetrix.com
https://usefathom.com/
We use Mixpanel.com to track user events
I’ve just implemented Amplitude which is really useful, and using Google Optimise to do super simple and fast A/B testing.
