When and why did you decide to become an entrepreneur?

Hey Hackers,

I've been wondering, what led you guys to kickstart your entrepreneurial journey?

It's funny because, just a couple of years back, I wasn't into the whole business scene. My world revolved around UX design, and having the Head of Design role was like a dream come true for me!

But you know how life throws curveballs at you? Well, a good friend of mine pulled me into a project of his, and that's when the business bug bit me. From that moment on, I couldn't get enough of the whole building and growing businesses thing.

Now, if you took a look at my podcast playlist, you'd notice a pattern – they're all about business! It's crazy how my mindset did a total of 180 in just two years. I went from a dedicated UX designer to a full-on designpreneur!

I'm super curious about your journey. So spill the beans and share your story with me!

Let's inspire each other! 💡

It's funny, as a kid (~10 years) I played a game where you needed to manage a hotel, keep it running and have it make money, and build it to be big. I don't know if that was the trigger, but it just always seemed normal to me to not go the "conventional" route. I created over 50+ failed (but real) businesses from 16 years of age and just kept persisting until eventually, one hit success after years of tries. I quit high school after 2 weeks, cause at that point I had already made $1M in revenue from one of my companies. Honestly, I don't know; for me it's been "easy" and I guess, in a cringy way, "my calling".

Inspiring! Are you a solopreneur? I'd love to hear more about how did you get your first customer

I lost my job at a startup company last year (**tech layoffs). From there I realised how vulnerable my job is anytime

Sorry to hear that. What are you working on atm?

Ever since I was young I've built little side projects, so I knew I had the potential and interest. Being a software engineer puts me in an advantageous position to create a SaaS, although I will have to see how well I do all the other things :')

It's only now that I'm in my thirties that I'm actually committing to giving this a go. I don't want to work 9-5 and I don't want to do that for 30 more years. Work is also taking a lot of energy and creativity.

I started listening to entrepreneurship podcasts a few months ago, and with an ambitious partner made redundant recently we're taking the leap and are taking a year off to give this a go. I feel privileged to get such a chance. Even if we fail to create a successful business, I will have learnt so much by next year. Not only new skills, but also about myself. Wish us luck!

      Good luck and have fun!!

30s is the best time to build a business IMO, as you've gained enough knowledge about the product and market. That will increase your success rate! I wish you all the best on this journey 💪

      BTW, what are you building?

      1. 2

I agree and I'm not bitter or anything. We've got a lot of experience and skills to leverage and I'm optimistic! We've got a massive list of single-sentence SaaS ideas we're developing a bit more, so nothing right now 🙃 Gave you a follow since I love good UX; lots to learn for a software engineer.

Working the midnight shift at a grocery store with some of the worst co-workers I've ever experienced. One day I just decided I didn't want smelly old men yelling at me anymore

    1. 1

I had a similar experience lol.

Maybe one day, you want to thank that smelly old man

honestly, more and more I realise I don't like to work 9 to 5 for someone else company, I don't know if its because of bad structure of most of commercial companies that don't engage as much and utilise their staff or not, but these jobs are pretty boring, disengaging, and unsatisfying.

that's why I really want to get out of the line and start my own journey

I feel you! Though, don't quit your job just yet (don't do what I did 👀). Work on your product while you grind through that 9-to-5.

Once your startup's making enough dough to cover your bills, then you can go all-in and kick ass with your business!

I started my entrepreneurial journey after a friend pulled me into a project. It sparked my interest in building and growing businesses. Now, I'm passionate about it and love listening to business podcasts. Share your story too! 💡😊
