WordPress: You can't submit themes and plugins for the holidays. Matt Mullenweng just announced that Wordpress is pausing a few of their services so that he and others can take a break until the new year.

I know a lot of indie hackers publish software and themes for WordPress and may be affected. But my advice for all of you at this point is to honestly consider whether you want to stick to an ecosystem run by a boy king. I hear Ghost is doing great things.

Matt also used this opportunity to bash WPEngine:

"As you may have heard, I’m legally compelled to provide free labor and services to WP Engine thanks to the success of their expensive lawyers, so in order to avoid bothering the court I will say that none of the above applies to WP Engine, so if they need to bypass any of the above please just have your high-priced attorneys talk to my high-priced attorneys and we’ll arrange access, or just reach out directly to me on Slack and I’ll fix things for you."

    Crazy.

Really rare to see this kind of a public meltdown from someone in a position of such responsibility. Rare and sad. But also… pretty entertaining?

I mean, did you catch the thing earlier this week where WordPress's login screen forced people to tick a box saying they enjoyed pineapple on their pizza? If nothing else this destroys the credibility of Mullenweg's claim that the current pause to new account registrations is to give volunteers a break for the holidays.
