Launched on Product Hunt

Just posted Marketing Examples to Product Hunt. If you find the site helpful any support is appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š

Any Indie Hackers want some tips on how to launch to Product Hunt? Here's what I think ๐Ÿ‘‰

  1. The main mistake people make is they throw their startup on Product Hunt straight away. This can be a good way to get a quick buzz, but I think there's a few benefits to holding fire for a little bit before launching on Product Hunt.

  2. If you're starting small and you launch on Product Hunt straight away you sort of waste your "turn". Everyone sees a half baked MVP

  3. For instance, the first iteration of my site had just a few case studies. Since then, I've been adding new examples each week, fixing bugs, and getting feedback from initial users. And now the sites in better shape, and I know it converts well it's time to share it.

  4. Another benefit of not launching straight away is it's allowed me to build up a bit of following up before the launch ( on twitter + email) And then, fingers crossed, once I launch I've got already got some fans who want to support the product :)

I saw you on startupschool. Big ups on the comment from Kevin.

I like what youโ€™ve done here. Already had your site book marked.

Are you coming up with all these yourself?

My advice? Keep the quality of the articles high and actionable. The minute โ€œbloggyโ€ or โ€œspammyโ€ submissions start to show up, a user like me will start to look elsewhere.

    Have an upvote man!

Thanks Glenn, very nice comment :)

Yep, currently coming up with all these myself. Totally agree with the quality. There's enough marketing writing on the internet already haha!

    2. 1

Just actually read your post here in entirety and totally agree. If this was the first time I came across your site, you probably wouldnโ€™t have gotten an upvote from me.

      1. 1

Interesting. I'm thinking about writing an example about this actually.

  2. 2

Enjoy the launch ride! It's a whole lot of dopamine.

I launched my project on PH last Sunday and it's been fun.

Subscribed to the newsletter : )

      Cheers Vita,

Love that idea. Hope to get the extension later on.
Must be quite funny posting a product which hopes to help you remove distractions on Product Hunt!

      1. 1

Haha, yes, it is somewhat funny.

For me, PH was never a distraction, I checked it once or twice before using it for launch. Now it is becoming a distraction though, so it'll probably soon end up on my website blacklist :)

If you do end up trying the extension, any feedback is appreciated!

    Hey Man,

Been following your journey - congrats on the progress bro.

If youโ€™re a content business, wondering why you didnโ€™t just build on a blogging platform.

Also, Iโ€™m interested in how you get all the images for your site and if you write the content yourself.

    Nice job man.

    1. 1

To be honest, it just comes down to doing what I know!

I've never used any CMS / Wordpress type thing before and just wanted to crack on with it so I built it myself.

Regards to content, I just come up with it. See something cool I'll write about it. Got a diary of ideas in the locker. Regards to images I make them all in Sketch. And apply an overlay gradient over each one to make them uniform :)

Regards to the images in the article, I also make in Sketch and just add on some nice arrows / underlines to make it look nice!

      Thank you ๐Ÿ™

      1. 1

Awesome! Is Sketch in the App Store?

        Youโ€™re a good writer man.

        Great work

This is really great content, upvoted on PH. Good luck!

Cheers Zoli - Yeah, the primary focus really is on keeping the quality high. There's vast quantities of average marketing writing out in the sea! Trying to fill the ocean with fresh fish!

This has the potential to be my second favorite resource after swiped.co

    Thanks for making this.

    1. 1

Swiped looks awesome, will be sure to check out more. Thanks for the high praise!

  9. 1

    Congrats!
    I like your project.

  10. 1

Wow, 1000 upvotes and you are a maker and a hunter at the same time. I thought PH community does not appreciate it.

    1. 1

Cheers Dmitri! Honestly, I don't think being a hunter and a maker is a drawback at all. All good. Don't let that stop you :)

Great stuff. The Fortnite case study was really interesting. Make sure to not claim that upper funnel marketing isn't relevant anymore. An IPA study has found that the ideal mix is around 60 brand / 40 activation comms. And as activation (lower funnel) activity might be more efficient, it might be more effective long-term running branding in terms of business effects (check out The Long and Short of It - paper).

I would love to collaborate somehow. My site is a marketing resource website, but focused on digital marketing jargon, metrics and acronyms (https://digitalmediametrics.com/). Feel free to give me a message on here if you're keen.

FYI, on a smaller laptop screen, I cannot see all of the categories in your menu.

    1. 1

Good point with Fortnite! And yeah, I agree. Also thanks for the point about laptop size and menu

Just checked out your site. Looks cool. Good luck growing it :)

You literally marketed so well, so much to learn from you. You were literally everywhere Startup School, Hacker News and here too. And now on the front page of PH! You really know all the marketing!
    All the best!

Hey Harry - Congratulation on your PH launch, just upvoted! It seems like you're getting more upvotes than the 1st product of the day, but you're still 2nd. Are you sharing your PH campaign w/ a direct link like here on Indie Hackers? PH penalizes excessive self-promotion. You could share using the search bar link instead (example: https://bit.ly/2GUetd2).

    1. 1

Hi Davide, yeah interesting! I think that direct thing might have something to do with actually. As I do have many more upvotes than the top spot. Thanks for the insight.

  19. 1

    Upvoted! Congrats man :)

Let us know how many email subscribers the PH leads to!

Cheers Davis! Appreciate it, currently about 200 :)
