BackupsHQ - can you tell what this does?

https://backupshq.com

Does it make sense? Is it too simple?

If you deal with backups in your work, I'd love to have a chat with you too.

    Hello mate,

Love the idea for the product, I use backup software daily.

I will say - the site is too simple. Actually, I don't know if simple is the right word. Maybe, not structured properly? It'd be fine if it was maybe just a temporary page while you network but I would definitely not put any money on advertising for this product just yet.

Where do you plan to get traffic from? Because this will help me provide feedback on what should be changed. Different traffic sources will require different optimizations.

Traffic coming from certain keywords on Google will want to see different things to turn them into "buyer" mode, as well traffic from social media and other platforms.

With a homepage, you're typically looking to cast the widest net possible, especially to begin with, as you don't really know who will be finding you naturally. If you're doing any sort of advertising, it really should be towards an inner page that is setup specifically for that traffic source.

I would recommend you setup software such as LuckyOrange to gain insight on your visitors as well.

Looking forward to seeing your journey on here :D

Thanks Luke for your detailed feedback!

Perhaps I've posted this to the wrong group - this is definitely a temporary page to pitch the idea and collect some emails, not a full-blown marketing site. There's no branding concept or screenshots yet, and I won't be spending any money on advertising until we have those.

Not sure! At the moment I'm just sharing the idea with clients and colleagues. It's aimed at developers / sysadmins, so I imagine the first place would be programming forums and other niche communities. I don't really know beyond that - I've never marketed anything before.

I'm hesitant at this stage to post it in too many places, I think it's better to wait until there's something people can sign up for. What do you think?

Thanks for the tips about different landing pages and handling traffic that's in "buyer" mode. I'm going to do some reading about that.

Really pleased you like the idea. Is there anything you think is missing from that list of planned features? Anything you don't understand? It's a technical product, so my focus at the moment is being able to explain it clearly and concisely.

Thanks for the reply Glynn, y'know, looking at the site with the added context it does make a lot more sense. I think it does the job pretty well.

The only thing I can think to add is perhaps some sort of gamified viral loop mechanism to promote the product while it's still not available.

Something like this: https://appsumo.com/viral-loops/ (Disclaimer, I've never used this software but I remembered it was on sale and it looks pretty good). I have used gleam.io and a few custom implemented scripts before with good success.

You could offer exclusive beta access as a reward for referring people. Maybe even a cash prize for the largest referral, if you have the available funds. Or something gimmicky but enjoyable if you are low on funds. You'll need to be creative for that, maybe have a look on Aliexpress. You could also give 1 year Pro access to the product to the person with highest referrals, just to chuck a few ideas out there.

Oh, a viral loop for referrals is a great idea, thanks! I'll investigate and let you know when we get something set up. I think account credit or a cash prize is a great way to encourage referrals.

    Hi Glynn,

I would definitely look into make it more appealing, when are you planning on launching backupsHQ?

    Best,

    Sebastian

Thanks Sebastian, that's definitely planned! All I have to show at the moment is a pitch, which is why the site is so simple.

I'm hoping to make a basic version available in a month or two. We're working in between client work, so it depends how busy that gets.

Hi Glynn, I will look forward to the new version of the website, definitely count on me to revise it.

        Best,

        Sebastian
