Finding mentors has been one of the most exciting parts of our startup process.
For the past few months we've been working, building, reading, and interviewing. We're trying to figure out what it is we should be doing.
There's no set guide on "how to build a startup". There are thousands of things we could be doing. How do we figure out what we should be doing...other than our best guesses?
Having mentors makes all the difference.
We've gotten here with common sense, intuition, and reading. This knowledge doesn't compare to "real" direction though. We know that to move faster, we need advice from people who have gone through this process.
We've recently established connections with mentors who have given us some amazing insights. Every time we speak with them we get concrete action steps that we can immediately take action on.
I look forward to these opportunities because they are incredibly motivating experiences.
Find Your Mentors
If you have an opportunity to find a mentor, do it! If not, leverage your network to see who may be able to introduce you to someone.
You can't find any better advice. Mentors have worked through your problems and found success on the other side.
Work on asking the best questions – be specific. Be appreciative. You'll gain much more than knowledge.
