So the past few days have been a fun time dealing with major technical problems.
During a leisurely walk one evening I received an email from Google that looked scary...
Google informed us that we had violated various terms of service because we were apparently mining cryptocurrencies! That's news to me! I immediately freaked out. We are in the middle of a round of judgement for the FAU Tech Runway Launch Competition! If the site was down that would not help us make our case.
We were lucky though...for the time being, things were still working. We immediately appealed the suspension and soon after we were reinstated. And then it happened again...
This time was bad. The site was down. We started scrambling. We phoned Google Support (2-4 hour wait time), sent repeated emails, and filed appeals. The only response we received was an automated message saying that they would review our case within two business days. TWO DAYS?!
We did the only thing we could do, started opening up a brand new project to host our platform. Worst case we do a bunch of extra work but the site would actually be functional.
In the end, we're now back up with rolled back code and extra security precautions. Mr. Mihai, you're a rock star!
This is one of those startupy things that you know is going to happen and you can only prepare so much for it. Don't need to do that again anytime soon.
On to more fun things...what should we name ourselves?
So we're convinced that we need to change our name. We've been having an ongoing discussion for some time. It came up on a recent call and so now we're pushing for the change. Figured I'd share some of our weird thought pattern on this front as we continue the search...
We started with "SpeedBack" because it rhymed with feedback and had the association of being fast. But that domain wasn't available. So what the heck...add a "Get" on the front to help push people.
We've been working with that but realized that it sends the wrong message. We like companies being quick with their reviews but that's not what we're trying to convey.
So now what? We tried incorporating "reviews"...roundreview, minimalreview. But now we don't want to be so literal. Also the two words is a turnoff.
Next? Let's come up with other single words that describe us. Automation, automatic, performance, perform. No derivations of these are available.
Then, on the same call, we got some great advice. What is the name of the company you want to be five years from now?
So we've been following that path. We're currently playing with other languages to find something unique. The name isn't as important as the product but we do want people to feel a certain way when talking about us.
Any suggestions?
ooh names! fun.
whatever it is... make sure it's something YOU love.
It's so difficult...but so fun. Can't imagine what it's like for children...
don't do this too much: http://www.codenamegenerator.com/
