I spent some times (from a distance) the other night and 3 out of 3 (non-tech) people said they're having trouble keeping up with the many Slack channels across work, non-profits, and social.
So I proposed the idea of Slack digest emails. Imagine if a user could set a frequency or post count (I.E. once a week or 100 new posts) and get digest emails showing all channel activity since the last digest.
I'm too busy to build it but I bet if someone built it and charged, for example, $1 per channel per month people would pay for it.
This is a good idea. I'm surprised Slack doesn't offer something basic like this already.
I have used the Lowdown slack app, and it's really great, but it's more of a community newsletter of the top posts for that week.
Yeah, I looked through the IH projects first in case there was something close that I could just suggest to them. Lowdown was the only thing I found and it sounds like it needs to be setup by the channel admin rather than individual users.
As we get into more and more info overload there is going to be increasing demand for "consolidated" or "digest" info, IMO.
Yea, I completely agree. Especially with all of these "newsletter services" getting popular right now. I think this is a great idea.
@Lakebed_io @schoon Hey guys, just spotted this. I'm the creator of Lowdown and we're working on a pivot that is trying to solve this exact problem. Anyone fancy a quick chat someday? Would love to learn more. Thank you!
I'm happy to help as much as I can. I'm more on the tech and ideation side of things. I barely use Slack and openly hate it because "I don't see any real improvement over ICQ or XMPP".
My email and Twitter are in my profile. Happy to do what I can.
Hey @shylands, I would love to chat. I was strongly considering using Lowdown, but with a small community of ~60 I can't really justify the price at the moment. I did use the free trial though, and people loved it. It definitely increased engagement.
I just followed you on Twitter. I'll reach out there.
I think you can also use Kipwise to make Slack communications more organized and useful. @Lakebed_io
hi @felix12777 - would love to chat with you - let me know if you are free one of these days.
