I've been interested in bionic reading but wasn't sure if it actually worked. This study showed that bionic reading can increase speed by 41 words/minute...
But your comprehension may go down.
There's a link at the bottom of the article where you can try it.
I’ve found that speed reading is great but only the tip of the iceberg.
The best use of books comes from comprehension. Make notes in your own words to confirm you know what they’re saying. Read like parts from multiple books on the same subject and contrast them. Ask questions, and find answers.
How does what I read relate to other things I’ve read?
How does what I read distinguish itself from other things I’ve read?
What is the author omitting?
Focus on reading the parts you need now, not eventually.
If it’s a theoretical book, theorize what it says.
If it’s a practical book, practice what it says.
If it’s a fiction book, enjoy what it says.
Well said!
Good to read this.
I'd recommend investing the time in learning how to speed read. Here's a method that Tim Ferriss recommends — he claims he increased a friend's reading speed by 34% in 5 minutes. Seems like that result is probably an outlier, but I think it's a solid method nonetheless.
There are several Chrome extensions for this. It would be interesting if Kindle/Apple Reader had such a feature. Hope this will get enough traction so more and more big companies add it as a feature.
That would pretty neat but if I'm not mistaken, Bionic Reading is patented so I'm guessing they'd have to get permission to add it as a feature?
How can you patent bolding specific letters? That seems crazy to me.
Beats me 🤷.
Yeah, this is cool. Problem is that I hear the available products in the space are crap. Could be an opportunity...
Oooh cool, I've heard about this!
