There are so many no-code website builders to choose from. So I made it a bit easier and organized them 🗂

Basically, these no-code website builders fall into three categories:

  1. Made for Flexibility and Functionality
  2. Designed with a Specialized Focus
  3. Super simple and easy to use (but a bit limited)

Webflow gets a lot of attention because it leads the pack in category #1. You can do a lot with it but there's a lot to learn.

I find the specialized focus builders to be pretty compelling because you are essentially starting with your outcome first, i.e. what is your website actually trying to accomplish?

I go into a bit more detail in this post if you're interested.

I'm sure there are builders I'm missing. What would you add to the list and how would you categorize it?

    You're missing Bubble here.

    1. 1

I thought about adding Bubble but originally left it out because its focus is on web apps and not traditional websites. But, there's so much crossover that it could easily fit, especially in the Specialized section.

      1. 1

Sure, just have a look at the template marketplace and you'll see some incredible builds.

You should include https://versoly.com by fellow IndieHacker @volkandkaya! It has tons of users here!

    1. 1

Awesome - put that on my list to check out! Appreciate it

    2. 1

Also, just a point of feedback about the graph.. I'm not sure I understand the categorization between "Function", "Specialized", and "Simplicity". I feel like you could put any one of those products into any of the other categories and it would still make sense. So it's a distinction without a difference to me.

      1. 2

Perhaps it might of made more sense to breakdown the different sections further within the image.

        Specialized gets broken down into:

-Made for mobile, build on mobile.
        -Artistic, Designer, and Photographer
        -Ecommerce and Marketplaces
-Websites to serve your mailing list

and Simplicity and Ease gets broken down into:

        • Website first, Web apps likely coming
        • One-page Sites
        • Basic

This is my first time doing a categorization of a bunch of tools like this and so I appreciate the feedback. Thank you 🙏

Have you seen Editor X yet? I'm a big fan of Webflow and it looks like Editor X may end up being similar. Interested in if you have thoughts on it yet.

I checked it out after listening to a Visual Dev podcast episode. It looks pretty sleek but I honestly haven't dove deep enough to do a fair comparison. The Visual Dev folks swear by Webflow but they are a bit biased.

      1. 1

Yeah that makes sense. Webflow is a beast for sure.

Sorry to be so blunt Bryce but It's missing so many builders, this looks like a post to drive trafic to your website :/
Landen, versoly, hackr, pory, sheet2site just to name a few.

    1. 1

Hmm. I try not to shamelessly promote for the sake of traffic. Only offering a link if you find it helpful - apologies if you took this another way.

There are hundreds of builders, hoping to make sense of all of them.

Would you be willing to share how you’d categorize the ones you listed?

  5. 1

Hey Bryce. Cool post! I built WeBase as a tool that combines the power of Airtable for custom data models with the power of Webflow for custom webpages. I think it is much easier to use than Webflow though!

I'd love for you to check it out and add it to your post!

Thank you! Gosh, I'm realizing how many tools I should add to this post. Slowly collecting more and might update at some point.

      Appreciate it!

Hi @BryceV, would be awesome to see https://pory.io on your list too :)

  7. 1

    Hi Bryce, thanks for this!
One question I've always had when comparing website builders is load speed. For example, we have three different websites on shopify, and they constantly rank with an OK speed on various speed tests and such. We also have one on wix, which, again, ranks mediocre. Seeing how crucial speed is for a good e-comm experience, what would you recommend?

    1. 1

This is a great thing to look at but honestly hasn’t been one I’ve focused too much on. Would be great to see a deeper comparison on speed. Not sure I have the experience to give much of a rec on this!

  8. 1

Try Relate.app, Its really nice and i loved the minimal look and overall experience

    1. 1

Ah yeah I've seen this. I'm curious, is it more of a design platform or does it also provide hosting and a way to launch a site?

      1. 1

They announced about the hosting too, i haven't checked it yet.

Right now it's still in beta and it'll grow like anything. It can be the future. They made an unique tool that lets you design what you want and it will ask the tech stack too - react, vue, svelte and angular.

Could you please review Siteoly - NoCode website builder for dynamic content ?

    1. 1

Oh cool - this looks like https://www.sheet2site.com/ . Curious, what would you say are the differences?

      1. 1

Np. I have already answered it for @jasonleow here at https://www.indiehackers.com/post/nocodesheets-is-now-siteoly-7ae17c1e1b?commentId=-MCmXbKNkSu14Nlgub_J

Apart from the differences, Siteoly comes at much lower price too.

  10. 1

Hi - cool idea! I believe you forgot Bubble (which I use a lot myself ) and a few others that are less well known.

    1. 1

Hey! Yeah, I mentioned to codeables^ in another comment about how I was sort of on the fence about adding Bubble since their focus is on web apps. But I can see how it could fit in.

I'll likely want to do a v2 of the graphic with everyone's input. Not easy to classify all of these builders - hoping to make it useful, though.

  11. 1

Love your work grouping these into one spot Bryce - A handy resource to have.
Do you have a list of any 'landing page only' website builders?

    1. 1

Appreciate you letting me know. I’d love to keep adding to the list seeing that there are so many.

Don’t yet have Landing page only sites - I’ll add that to the list ✅
