It’s been a month since I launched Logobly.com, my new logo maker for startups.
Since then, Logobly has generated over 10,000 logos for startups!
That’s a lot of logos. And startups. And founders.
In this post I’m going to share with you some useful data Logobly has unearthed in the process of creating 10,000 startup logos.
It includes handy insights on startups, startup branding and startup founders.
Let’s dive in.
First up, the types of startups founders are launching. Before I launched Logobly, I did market research using Product Hunt and Indie Hackers as a basis for my startup categories.
By far ‘Productivity’ was the most popular startup category on Product Hunt. I figured people would most likely be launching the most new startups in this category.
There were a lot of startup logos created for in the Productivity space, but it was not the most popular startup category.
The 3 most popular startup categories were in fact Gaming 7.4%, followed by Design at 6.8% and then Health & Fitness at 5.5% of out of the total number of startup categories listed on Logobly.
My research into startup branding led me to the fact that the internet is dominantly blue in colour. The research holds.
The most popular colour for new startup logos was in fact blue at 24%, followed by red at 10% and then green at 8%.
No surprises here, startup founders love the colour blue for their brands.
Fonts wise, based on my experience I knew most startup founders prefer to use sans serif fonts. 9 out of 10 fonts featured on Logobly are sans serif. I knew these types of fonts would be a popular choice.
The number one font founders used to brand their startups on Logobly was Arlon at 17%, followed by Arona at 10%, and then Qualy at an equal 10%.
When it comes to startup founders using Logobly to brand their new startups, most of the founders come from the US at 7.4% of Logobly users, followed by India at 6.8% of total Logobly users, and then the UK at 5.5%.
India’s internet users are exploding right now! It’s great to see this new market with a huge share of founders.
When it comes to the age of founders, the majority of founders are aged 25 – 35 years old, followed by the second largest group of startup founders at age 18 – 24 years old.
This was slightly younger than I would have anticipated, so it came as a surprise.
My guess is that more and more younger folks are starting their own startups as opposed to working for other folks which is great.
Most of my startup founders on Logobly are male, with a total of 63% percent. Still a large and growing share of startup founders are female which is great to see.
I hope you enjoyed the findings on Logobly.com’s first 10,000 ventures into startup branding.
My biggest takeaway was the surprising number of founders based in India. I also found it interesting that most startup founders are aged 25 – 34 years old.
I look forward to writing about what I’ve learned branding 1,000,000 startups in the future! I’m sure I’ll have a whole bunch of new insights and learnings to share with you when that time comes.

Hi Craig,
I love how you make it look easy, the domain name newsletter, the free ebooks and all the rest.
of those 10000 users, how many actually purchased the logo?
Keep up the great work!

Alright! I like what you did there : )
:) i've seen some similar services. i did a fun exercise on the original logo a few years back:
so, i'm familiar with the systems.
Thanks for sharing!

Great post, great writing, and great information shared! Thank you mate :)
The only « down side » from l’y perspective is that I would have loved to hear how you managed to get such an insane number of users / visitors to your website in such a narrow timeframe! If you want to share about that too I’m all ears :)
David from The Other WorkSpace
Hey David, thanks for your comments. Yes, it's quiet a milestone : )
Before my launch I was working tirelessly on product development, blogging, SEO, talking to users, testing and lots more a good 6 months before launch - this is why there's been so many people taking Logobly for a spin in the first month.
And during that month I was hammering out blog posts, and lots more marketing efforts including free ebooks etc.
I know this sounds boring, but it's what you have to do - it's a super competitive space so I'm focusing solely on online startup as my niche to get some traction - as apposed to 'general branding' for any business like stores, or products etc.
Hey Craig! Sorry I forgot to reply for some time!
Well it's true. I mean not the part that it sounds boring, but that I guess that is the hard truth in terms of what needs to be done to achieve some traction.
Though, for me, that is still super impressive in terms of results. I don't know how much time and effort you put in getting your product/project out there before the actual launch (and since that too of course), but if you're saying you don't have a marketing team working on this full time to help you do it, it really is amazing.
Congratulations in any case, and thanks for the reply! :)
Cheers,
David
I'm not sure it's fair to say that what Logoly does is "brand" a company. Branding is much more than logo design.
Congrats on the 10,000 users though! Great accomplishment.
Hey Hunter, thanks for weighing in... yes a brand is more than a logo - this is true.
Logobly does offer a pretty comprehensive brand package for your startup, here's what it includes:
A full color website ready logo
A white website ready logo
A full color word only logo
A white word only logo
A website favicon
SVG, PNG and EPS logo files
2x social media logos
Plus a brand color guide with #color values
That's still not branding. That's a visual identity, which is an aspect of branding, but not the whole shebang. Anyway I don't really care to debate it. Congrats on your success.
Hi Craig!
