What is essential for you in a coming soon page?

We're building a product called "Coming Soon Kit" includes 50+ coming soon page templates for building an audience before the product launch.

We used one of our templates for our product's coming soon page, too 🎉

We prepared some templates like above including features list, only text areas-without image(for products still developing), counter, text areas with image(desktop/mobile/e-book etc.).

Do you have any other idea like these? That would be great to hear your thoughts on what a coming soon page should have 🙌

I also have a "coming soon" product, and I wonder how it is different from your regular landing page with an email field for adding you to a waiting list. Which is what I ended up building myself using a template I purchased (still took about a week for me to build it up from the pieces I took from the template).

I guess you definitely need to add some simplified analytics, email collection (or being able to hook it to all major email marketing tools), maybe waitlist handling ("bring 3 users and we'll move you to the top of the queue", or "first 20 users get a free month -- only 3 left").

Would you be interested in some kind of collaboration? I'm building a minimalistic analytics tool for landing pages, and it's an ideal fit for your solution. Would you like to have a chat about it?

I've heard the concept of the product you're building before. Sounds interesting! Dm'd you on Twitter 📮

Feature previews (with and without images). Newsletter sign-up. Social media links. Contact form. Area for short-form articles. FAQs. Timeline overview would be a really nice bonus.

      Fantastic suggestions.
✅ Feature previews (with and without images).
      ✅ Newsletter sign-up
      ✅ Social media links.
We definitely think about FAQ section for this version.
The others might be our V2 features.
      🔥Contact form
      🔥 Area for short-form articles
🔥 Timeline overview would be a really nice bonus.

Great! Thanks for your support @fromtheexchange 🚀

Some form of storytelling is definitely needed:

✅ why is it that you’re building this product
✅ what makes you uniquely qualified to fix this problem in the first place
✅ some early testimonials of beta users
✅ other forms of social proof like how many people already signed up on the waiting list
✅ a countdown clock to when the product is going live

Basically, all the things you would have on your page the moment the product or service is live but instead of having a call-to-action convincing me to leave my payment details, a call-to-action to leave my email address.

By the way, the “alivedomain” link gives an SSL error so that doesn’t really come over as if the product is built “by people that know what they are doing”, if you catch what I mean.

    1. 2

Thanks for the detailed answer @hansvangent

✅ The first two of advice can be explained with the sentences in the hero section. We also put some badges to use for marketing ("don't forget to use xx coupon") or to give extra details/tips for the product (like "built with Tailwind CSS V3" )
🔥 Idea of adding some testimonials is a great idea
✅ We put some images saying "xx people are waiting for XX"
✅ We also have templates including countdown
      Great!
We also use arrow icons on some templates highlighting the "Join Waitlist" button.

      👉 Now, let's talk about aliveDomain;
Thanks for letting me know about the problem you've had.
SSL certification is checked automatically because we use an SSL monitoring service. So it's not possible to have any problem with it.
Also, when I checked the expiry date of the certification manually there is no problem with that. As you can see, it seems SSL is certificated until 25 April 2022:
      https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=alivedomain.com

Can you explain to me more what kind of problem you had trouble with? We never received any feedback like that, so we would like to figure this out 🙌

      1. 1

I think for people to believe a new product they might need some more space then just one or two lines in a hero section to convince people why your business is uniquely qualified both from a founder as well as a product vision to tackle a problem and convince me to “buy” in the form of an email address.

In regards to the domain check the screenshot of my browser when I follow the link from the page: https://ibb.co/rZZY7C3

        1. 1

Got it, you're right. It might be important, especially for the bigger businesses. We designed sections including product features but adding some other sections like how it works can help understand the business better.

Appreciated for the screenshot and collaboration ✌️ Is there any custom config for redirection in your browser? Can you please try to open it in a different browser like Chrome?

          1. 2

No worries happy to help a fellow indiehacker! The screenshot was from Safari on my iPhone. Not behind a computer at the moment. Maybe it stems from mixed content (http and https) on the site?

            1. 1

              Many thanks 🙏
I checked the mixed content and everything looks clear: https://geekflare.com/tools/tests/iffco3q0m

There is no problem when I tested it manually with Safari. Just in case, I extended the expiration date manually without waiting for the auto-renewal. Can you check it again on any other phone or computer?

              1. 2

Sorry for the late response was at the beach all day with the family 🙂

That seemed to have done the trick though as it is fixed on my Iphone and just tested it with my iPad and mac and all seems to be okay!

                1. 1

It's so nice, happy for you 😊 I look forward to go to the beach, too! It's still early for that here :)

Great news! Happy to hear everything works properly @hansvangent 🎉 Thanks for all again! Have a nice day!

@hey_fk I think almost a product roadmap (obviously not too detailed, but I think putting some rough dates/months) give a good level of assurance and keeps prospects on the hook.

Furthermore, this is a great chance for a loom-esk video by the founder to talk about the brand!

    All the best

    1. 3

This 👆 how many times I’ve got an email stating “we’re launched come check us out” and I’ve got no idea what the hell the service is about and when or why I signed up in the first place because it took so long to launch.

      1. 2

Roger that! It seems we should definitely design a template including a roadmap ✌️Thanks @hansvangent

    2. 1

      Hey!

As you said on your comment we added a product roadmap template in our product!

          And how! Much appreciated 🎉

    3. 1

Putting a product roadmap section is recommended highly. It looks like a must feature 👍
As for the loom-video area, we already prepared a template for this! Great to hear that from you, too! Thanks @AdamIsaacsRae 🙌

Looks great! I often appreciate a clear signup page for future notifications (email etc). Perhaps related is I really appreciate updates from the founder on how the project is tracking. I've signed up for many 'launching soon' pages and only ever hear back when the product has launched. I'd love to go along on the journey and provide input before it goes live!

    1. 2

Good point! The notifications are generally sent to subscribers only when the product has been launched. An idea that came up with what you've said is putting a follow the journey button on the coming soon pages. Thus, people who are interested in the product can follow the product journey.
      Thanks @hughdawkins ✌️
