What is your April Startup?

I'm going to build a coaching app driven by transcriptions of YC startup school videos.

This requires, getting a bunch of youtube videos -> transcriptions -> turning them into embeddings -> putting a chat bot in front of it. (i hope its that easy)

Now this is a tool for the people. What's your efficacy rate, considering a lot of creators have gotten good at segwaying into the product ads and making it seem like it's a part of their video?

    2. 1

Whoa how does that work? Do you have to process every video ever published?

      1. 2

So yes for first time we process every video that users open and save timestamp at which brand integration is happening in our DB.
After that any user who goes to that video we don't need to process it again, because we already have tiemstamp in our DB. Thanks for asking, do try it out :)

        1. 1

I wonder if advertisers do this but in reverse. They see which podcaster is saying "dangerous things" and cancel their ads on those shows.

We just launched on Product Hunt for Boring Report! Our goal is to remove sensationalism from the news, which is everywhere in today's media landscape. The current hope for the project is to get as much feedback as possible to improve the app.

    1. 2

wow, i really really really really really want something like this

    2. 1

Good work! where are you sourcing the news? seems like some news is regional, it would be great if you could customize it.

      1. 1

Language and Locality support is def on the way. We need to figure out a proper way to implement it. Glad you like it!

Subscription based design agency, for AI & Tech startups. Launching this Friday on ProductHunt, its going well so far and so excited for the launch!

    1. 1

Wow, this really a lovely idea for an agency. AI companies keep booming up every day, is really amazing niche to explore.

Wish you success on your launch, don't forget to inform us when you launch on product hunt so we can support you.

      1. 2

Hey Vicky, thank you really appreciate it. I must say, the journey so far has been such a good experience. Ive discovered platforms like IH and PH. Everyone has been extremely helpful and supportive which I wasn't expecting.

@Vickylove Sorry to be spammy, but here is the link to my launch:

        https://www.producthunt.com/products/rithmm

Feel free to subscribe on release this Friday. I'll also message you on Twitter to keep our convo going. Thanks Vicky

        1. 2

You're welcome, Have subscribe to the notification, wish you successful launch

I want through the landing page, you did really well, but am sensing you can make the hero text and subhero text tell the story better.

Like the "Let's bring your vision to life and make your brand stand with correct Brand Media Asset"

Or " Let us be the driving force behind your brand's success with creative Branding package"

Then the hero text presence on the site can be the "We work with ambitious AI & Tech founders that are building our future"

Then you can have more project samples to showcase what you are offering, instead of having more words to do the convincing.

But overall, this is an amazing project, looking forward to the launch.

          1. 2

Hey Vicky, thank you for taking the time to check it out. I really appreciate the feedback and I will incorporate that. Thanks a bunch.

        2. 1

For me that product hunt image is cut off so I cant read it.

          1. 2

Hey @theptrk apologies. Try zooming in on the webpage, it changes the image scale

    2. 1

good things happen to those who ship 🚢

I'm working on my main startup, but your idea sounds super cool & similar to a side-project I'm building.

Basically, instead of YC videos, I used Whisper to transcribe all of the My First Million Podcast episodes.

I then used those to make embeddings of the different "business ideas" the hosts & guests recommended. Currently working on visualizing this so people can consume the information.

    1. 1

Super interesting. For June, Im thinking of building a central transcription and embedding store. That way no two people need to transcribe and pay whisper fees for the same episode

How did you go about crawling all the links for those episodes?

      1. 1

So first I used the Youtube API to get a list of all their videos.

After that, all of their full-episodes have a pretty standardized format (e.g. "#241") in the title, so it's quick to sort then manually check them.

Centralizing the information/transcription sounds super helpful - lots of projects can build on top of that! Good luck :)

        1. 1

I've always wondered how chunking works for transcription -> embeddings. Do you chunk on some. number of words or is there fancy logic to try to detect the end of a sentence?

          1. 2

It's super crude, but I'm running things through GPT-4 first.

I'm not actually embedding all the words into chunks, but rather main ideas and chains of thoughts. It's expensive though because one episode ends up being thousands and thousands of tokens @_@

            1. 1

super interesting, would love to hear about whichever chunking strategies you are comfortable with sharing.

  4. 3

Currently, I am focusing on improving my technical writing abilities. I have a vision for a textbook that I would have found extremely useful when I began my career in my industry.

    1. 1

Launching an outline and an email capture list is a great way to keep us updated!

    1. 2

What is one thing that you want to accomplish this month?

    2. 1

Love the simplicity of the idea - reminds me of Memberstack and Gumroad. How are you planning on distributing the product?

  5. 3

mine is scaletrade.ai - not really a one-startup-per-month kind of deal. But it's what I'm working on in April!

    1. 1

Oh nice. I’ve never heard of tradingview

  6. 3

Mine is: ArtifAIry.ai a platform dedicated to exploring the fascinating world of AI-generated art! 🎨🤖✨ Good luck to you 🚀

    1. 1

Nice what are your goals for the month?

      1. 2

A goal would be at least to have 100 Subscribers for the page and get some user submissions for new AI-generated art via the Hashtag #ArtifAIry through different social media channels Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, but also via Discord. Regarding Subscribers, it looks good so far. Since the release yesterday 13 new subscribers.

        1. 1

Have you considered also including the prompts that were used for generating these images? I think that this would be something that your subscribers would like to have, and the way to get more of them is to currate a base of prompts and send it in exchange for email address

          1. 1

Thank you so much for your input! Because of you comment I've added the prompt to the latest contest winners post of the first week https://artifairy.ai/p/first-weekly-ai-generated-images-contest-winners Will also continue to add prompts in future posts. Thanks again 🙏 I will keep the exchange hint in mind if more and more subscribers exist

    2. 1

Yay, looks fantastic! Would you like to join a community of tech entrepreneurs interested in AI? Looks like you might find it interesting

      1. 1

Thanks, yeah sure. I would love to join a community of tech entrepreneurs interested in AI :)

  7. 2

I'm making a tool powered by ChatGPT that lets you make open-ended surveys that ask follow-up questions, like an interviewer, for better insights at scale (and I figured out how to make ChatGPT summarize any amount of data for key takeaways!). It's called Survues

  8. 2

I am working on BeforeSunset v2.0, a mindful productivity tool for professionals and teams. Coming to change the point of view of productivity, help you to become the best planner of yourself https://www.usebeforesunset.com/

    Good luck on yours :)

    1. 1

Oh nice these blocks look like notion. Super nice landing page and screenshots.
What are you using for the text editor?

      1. 2

We are developing our own for the todo section :) but using editor.js for note-taking.

        1. 2

Looking forward to 2.0! editor.js looks great

  9. 2

I'm building Supademo (https://supademo.com), the easiest way to create and share interactive product demos and tours. With our Chrome extension, you can go from idea to sharing a demo in < 5mins, with no code or editing required.

  10. 1

I just launched my April startup (2 weeks late haha) on Product Hunt! (I'm new to this group so not allowed to put links yet, but the product handle on Product Hunt is "is-this-phishy".)

It's a friendly email address to which you can forward sketchy emails (for free) and it tells you whether the email is a phishing scam 🎣📩. Check it out and let me know what you think.

  11. 1

Hi all! 👋 How was your April startup??

I ended up pivoting my project todobud.com to become a Todo List you can use Natural Language for interactions. ChatGPT is TRULY distracting.

Currently you can only Create todos, but now I'm working on updating Todos (changing due date, changing title, adding notes)

  12. 1

Mine is SaaS that lets you quickly localize your apps. Built it in 8 days.

    1. 2

I love this, is there anyway to make it scale across different HTML elements?

      1. 1

Hey @CreativeJoe! Currently we have React Components and Javascript functions. The React Components return a string in a fragment <>Hello World</>, and the javascript functions return a string. You can put these components and functions anywhere you need text (in buttons, headers, links, titles, etc).

Here's a demo showing how to use it in plain-ol-javascript

Not bad! You did a good work bro. I think that's not be so easy for you. But your efforts will bring you much success. As it has a strong reputation for producing some of the most successful and innovative companies in the world. YC alumni include well-known companies like Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, and Reddit, among many others.

  14. 1

Ahah smart idea. Love the summarisation, people crave for knowledge, lot to do in this domain. I'm trying to find my angle for a next project on that. March's project: WhisperBot, not sure yet about April, Launching on ProductLaunch Saturday 😄

    1. 1

im a bit confused from the landing page. If my bedmate was sleeping wouldnt that stop me from using voice-to-text?

      1. 1

It's related to incoming voice messages- so if your bedmate is sleeping, you might not want to wake her-him up by listening to an audio message, but rather read it instead, using speech-to-text on the audio itself :)

        1. 1

oh i got super confused by "You send. It transcribes. You read"

          1. 1

Oh I see what you mean now. I have too many bias with the product, didn't think about that. I might change to "You forward. It transcribes. You read" to avoid confusion, thanks for the feedback :)

            1. 2

I think this is one of those "a picture is worth a thousand words" situations

  15. 1

I'm working on iceburgcrm.com which is hosting and a playground area for my open source crm IceburgCRM iceburg.ca It's meta data crm like SuiteCRM based on Laravel 10, Vue3, Tailwind and DaisyUI plugin.

  16. 1

I am building a AI-powered chrome extension Virtuo

  17. 1

I'm working on building my technical writing skills. I have an idea in my head for a textbook I wish that I had when I was starting in my industry, so this month I'm working on the outline and first few chapters!

    1. 1

Would love to see the outline

  18. 1

    I launched Peachweb. https://peachweb.com

It's a web design agency for SaaS with a subscription model.

    1. 1

Nice. I feel like this could go viral by examining the top sites

        1. 2

have you tried this on a site and posting a thread on twitter? You could @ the CEOs directly

          1. 1

On this site i still can't create posts, need more points:), on twitter not have account:( and my promote experience very bad, i good software engineer, need found some one to help me promote.

            1. 1

oh yeah twitter will be helpful for this.
If you do a "April edition: 100 worst issues in the top 20 sites". It would catch fire.

              1. 1

You can help me with twitter? Where i need post there? How i can get twit views with new account without followers? Thanks!

                1. 1

I highly highly highly recommend you listen to this interview with Dharmesh Shah from HubSpot. https://youtu.be/5WOzdCZRDnU?t=3106

He built a "Website Grader" much like you are trying to do and goes through how to make it useful and find product market fit for it.

                  1. 1

Thank you, I have already watched a lot of such videos, they give motivation, but I just can’t learn to think like a marketer :( I have a technical brain, I’m like a robot:D

"Website Grader" and my platform completely different :), then what it does for one page I will have for all pages of the site

p.s: created twitter account: https://twitter.com/IssueDetector you can please follow? thanks!
