Yoga for Developers

Hi.
I've been toying with an idea, firstly to help developers. Then is could be extended to dev teams, etc.

My idea is called Yoga for Developers. From sitting at a desk all day I have had a lot of upper and lower back issues as well as shoulder trouble. Yoga has helped me. However, being an introverted programmer I don't really want to attend yoga classes.

The idea is for an online platform that people can login to, pick a body part they are having trouble with and they can go through foundation, beginner, inter and advanced guided videos. To help with any ailments from being sat at a monitor all day.

Honest feedback on the idea would be greatly received. Is it something you would use? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I hear you about the shoulder pain. I've been getting that a lot since the work from home thing started and I find myself sitting in an uncomfortable chair at the kitchen table.

But the online yoga is not something I'd consider. It's too difficult to see the instructor on a zoom call, and you miss out on any camaraderie with fellow amateurs and newbies.

I might be open to yoga sessions for beginners though, and it would be good if the sessions were more balanced in terms of M/F ratio. I've done yoga sessions in the past where I was the only guy and the only beginner, and it's not fun. Not sure what could be done to attract more men to yoga.

It is a good idea! I'm also working on PC and I always have problems with my back and neck. Indeed, some yoga-practicing would be perfect for those people who go sedentary and are embarrassed to go to the gym. Honestly, I'm upset because I gained some excess kilos because of such a lifestyle. So, I also started practicing yoga in quarantine and I got carried away with it. More than that, I started to lose weight by doing yoga https://yogapractice.com/yoga/can-you-lose-weight-doing-yoga/ . Indeed, there are some exercises that allow training for all muscle groups and they burn fat.

I like yoga. It's super relaxing, I have been interested in yoga for a while now and I have tried many different styles. I have started doing yoga because I wanted to learn more about myself as a person and also just to learn to control myself better. I have been focusing more on meditation instead of just the physical aspect. I have talked with a lot of people attended a lot of seminars and worked really hard and one of the best things that I tried has been actually going to a retreat. I have been on one when I was in India and it was one of the most amazing experiences I had. I was planning to go on a new one this year but then the pandemic struck and I had to change my plans drastically. I decided to look for something closer to home and I settled on going to Costa Rica. I have checked a few different places and then settled on Kindred Spirits (if you guys are interested you can check a list of potential retreats over here: https://yogapractice.com/yoga/top-10-yoga-retreats-in-costa-rica ) I am going to go at the beginning of February and stay there for a few weeks. Hopefully everything will go well. Wish me luck.

Indeed, a cool idea! I am practicing yoga on-line according to the video. But honestly, I think it is important to do all in a complex and not apart for every zone because even if the pain is concentrated in one place, in any case, it is necessary to develop all the muscles to eliminate it. For example, sometimes pinching can be in the shoulder girdle, but the hip will hurt. Especially for me are perfect exercises on the headstand bench https://www.proinversiontherapy.com/best-yoga-headstand-bench-reviews/. To tell the truth, as soon as I have a free minute I strive immediately to meditate or stand upside down and relax. It always helps to relieve muscle tone and recover.

How your yoga? I'm doing yoga and can confirm, zero back/neck pain since started seriously. Sitting at my desk most days, I'm still progressing in flexibility.

As for your product idea, I've done (and still somewhat doing) a few things in the health & wellness space. The first thing I can tell you is that it doesn't matter so much that we can offer healthier choices, they need to WANT it. There's a hundred healthier choices we can do and a lot of people know intellectually that they're not optimising for their health, but it's still not attractive enough. I wanted to do yoga enough to hire private 1-on-1 instructor AND follow through every week.

Start with the customers. How many programmer mates (can be online of course) are seeking solutions for the back/sholder issues? It's going to compete with existing solutions, such as massage machines, ergo chair/desk, memory foam pillows, chiropractors, posture coaches, weightlifting, etc. And biggest player in the space is doing nothing about it.

So really Phil, get together a customer base that listens to you then we might be on to something. Happy to jump on board to help out.

I don't do a lot of yoga (it's a habit I want to build), but when I do I did 'Yoga with Adrienne' on YouTube.

She's very popular and highly recommended in basically every places these days. Deserved it too, especially with the onboarding program. Best wishes towards perfect downward dog for you!
